“I just realized, there’s a lot of money, like a lot of hundreds,” said Wills of the find. “I just went to get the manager and the vice president.”

The money added up to $3,100 found in the inside jacket pocket of a suit that had just been donated. The envelope was addressed to a man who, after a quick online search, was found to have died a year ago. However, after calling a local funeral home, the man’s widow was reached.

The most exciting part of whole experience, Wills said was returning the money. According to Goodwill staff, the woman had no idea her husband had the envelope of money stashed in his suit, and had no idea where it came from.

“It was really good, it was really great,” Wills said of meeting the man’s widow. “She was surprised. She gave me $100 for the reward for finding it.”

NICEVILLE — A Ruckel Middle School student is in police custody after deputies found a loaded gun in his backpack.

According to a social media post from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, the gun was found around noon Tuesday.

The school resource deputy and a youth services division supervisor learned the teen possibly had a weapon. The student was removed from the classroom, patted down, and the weapon was then found in his backpack, the post said.

The Sheriff's Office said information does not indicate the weapon was displayed or used to threaten anyone.

SANTA ROSA BEACH — Crews are battling a wildfire that has grown to span 100 acres of a wooded between Goldsby Road and Mack Bayou Road in Santa Rosa Beach, officials say.

Goldsby Road is closed and 25 homes in the area have been evacuated, according to the Florida Forest Service.

Malaina Brown, who lives in one of the neighborhoods evacuated, said it was scary and stressful.

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS — Walton County Commissioners are accepting requests for proposals to rent the Country Club's restaurant and bar.

Proposal documents read that interested individuals or businesses must submit six copies of their proposal and a $1,000 security bond to 176 Montgomery Circle in DeFuniak Springs by May 30 at 3 p.m.

Two people were arrested Thursday afternoon following a fight among employees at the new Popeye's restaurant.

Crestview police said they received several 911 calls from Popeye's at 3870 S. Ferdon Boulevard. When officers arrived they found two employees fighting, according to a press release from the Police Department. One of the employees was armed with a box cutter.

Thomas Robinett, a 34-year-old Destin local, was ejected from a 20-foot center console vessel in the Choctawhatchee Bay early Sunday afternoon after the boat took an unexplained "hard turn," according Rebekah Nelson, FWC spokeswoman.

Nelson said Robinett was operating the boat.

Another man, 33-year-old Matthew Martinello, was also thrown from the boat Sunday. He was rescued by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office after they responded to reports of the rogue vessel. He was taken to the hospital and released the next day. Nelson said it did not appear that Martinello had been struck by the boat.

The Coast Guard, according to its release, said the boat was found circling in the bay and had struck Robinett while he was stranded in the water.

Nelson, however, said it is unconfirmed whether the boat hit the missing man. She confirmed that the boat was running in circles until it was stopped by a tow company and taken to the Coast Guard Station.

The FWC is investigating the accident.

The worst offense, listed as high priority, was grey water from the hand wash sinks and triple sink found on the ground of the building. The water was draining directly on the ground and pooled under the establishment.

The sink was also unusable and the temperature was unable to reach 100 degrees. There were no paper towels or mechanical hand drying device provided at the sink either.

The restaurant, which has outdoor seating only, also had standing water around the rear east side outside on the ground.

Investigators ordered an immediate closure of the restaurant.

Another violation included the eatery adding a pineapple bar without first getting the plan reviewed and submitted to the city for approval. There was also no proof of state-approved employee training for any of its employees.

The basic violations were ice making machines located outside, the plumbing system in disrepair, plastic silverware not protected from contamination and water leaking from the triple sink and hand wash sink.
