Lane County officials are exploring whether to locate a waste and recycling diversion facility, the CleanLane project, at Short Mountain Landfill. The group of garbage haulers that helped block the county’s permit for its first-choice location is fighting this site too.

The closest big fire to the Seattle area is called the Little Giant Fire.

It’s the source of much of our recent smoke.

The fire in the Cascades north of Leavenworth has burned more than 70,000 acres.

It’s growing by leaps and bounds and moving closer to cabins and homes.
