Voters have just a little over 24 hours to get ballots in… for Washington’s August primary. KUOW’s Scott Greenstone has details.

Western Oregon is in store for hot weather, smoke and elevated fire danger this week.

Officials in Spokane do not know when people will be able to return home, in the wildfire evacuation areas.

INTRO: More than 600 structures [A previous version incorrectly said homes] in Spokane were destroyed in fires over the weekend. NWPB's Anna King reports from a checkpoint in Spokane on Sunday as survivors waited to see what remained of their neighborhoods.

Hundreds of people are staying at the shelter at the Spokane Convention Center today [Aug. 2] as wildfires burn through parts of the city.

Favorable winds have kept western Washington largely smoke-free this summer, even though Northwest wildfires have been burning at exceptional rates.

Forecasters say that stretch of luck is about to end.

Officials say around sixty-thousand people have been evacuated in Spokane after several fires sparked around the city over the weekend (SAT).
