Jesus came and brought good news, but is this news really good, and if so, what’s so good about it? Jesus paid for our freedom, yet only by following His teaching will we learn to live in His freedom.
The good news according to Mark is focused on a little word: “follow.” Jesus called people to follow Him. Crowds of people came and followed Him. Yet the gospel of Mark was written to persecuted Christians whose cultural context was working tirelessly to get them to stop following Jesus. The question for Mark’s readers is the same for us today, “why should we follow Jesus?”
