  • Academy Award Nominated Star War Phantom Menace Writer Terry Brooks
As author of the Academy Award nominated film Star Wars Espisode 1: The Phantom Menace, Terry Brooks is considered to be the second -biggest selling living fantasy writer, behind J.K. Rowling.
Terry Brooks is the first author to make the New York Times Best Seller list in the fantasy writing genre. Now with over 23 New York Times bestsellers, movie deals and busier than ever, Terry finds time to give back to his adopted hometown of Seattle, Washington and new writers struggling to find their own voice. In fact, he wrote a the book "Sometimes the Magic Works" to help people try to write better.  Terry also answers writer questions and gives an overview of the different avenues a writer can take to become a published author.
An original "nice guy" I talk to Terry about his writing, art, Seattle and his passion for compassion!
Terry has been writing since high school but during one semester early in his college years he ws given The Lord of the Rings to read.  That moment changed his life forever, because in Tolkien's great work he found all the elements needed to fully explore his writing combined in one genre.
The Sword of Shannara was born! It became the first work of fiction ever to appear on the New York Times trade paperback bestseller list, where it remained for over five months.
Hollywood has been interested in Terry's work for a long time.  He has sold rights to various studios over the years but nothing has been greenlit into production.  Currently, Warner Bros. hold the rights to the Landover books with Steve Carell attached to play Ben Holiday.
The Elfstones of Shannara is being looked at for a television series ala Game of Thrones. Sonar Entertainment has acquired the rights to Shannara.

  • Academy Award Nominee for Captain Phillips Dana Brunetti
NWP welcomes the Executive Producer of the Academy Award nominated movie "Captain Phillips", Dana Brunetti!
Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates.  It is — through director Paul Greengrass’s distinctive lens — simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller, and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization.  The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage.  Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.
Dana talks about the filming of this movie and his other upcoming projects including Evel Knievel, House of Cards and Fifty Shades of Grey.

  • American Idols Blake Lewis Talks Life After Idol
NWP welcomes American Idol, First Runner-Up BLAKE LEWIS
Anyone who tuned in to season six of American Idol knew to expect the unexpected of Blake Lewis. The Washington native, who admitted he hadn’t watched a single episode before auditioning in Seattle, arrived in Hollywood without a hint of a plan, other than to be himself. Yet through talent, instinct, creativity and unapologetic brashness, Blake managed to make it all the way to the finale as the first runner-up to Jordin Sparks, each week showcasing a different side to his endlessly eclectic musical identity. His performance of “You Give Love A Bad Name” currently has nearly 3 million YouTube views, and is considered one of the most popular performances in American Idol’s history.
Two years later, the beatboxing extraordinaire released a fully realized follow-up to his debut, Audio Day Dream, which sold more than 350,000 copies. Heartbreak on Vinyl, Blake’s first album for groundbreaking label Tommy Boy, blends his intrinsic pop sensibility with a love of electronic and dance music, which began taking shape long before he hit the Idol stage. “This is me trying to bridge the gap and make a record that I’m truly proud of,” he says. “I’ve got my 80s side and my indie side, my super pop slant and the electronic music that I love. I wanted to make happy, feel-good music.”

  • Daydream Believers-Mary Palmerin Author
Special thank you to my guest Co-Host Michele http://colormegreysessed.wordpress.com
Welcome Mary Palmerin, 26 years young and have been writing for as long as she can remember, scribbling fairy tales down on notebook paper as a young girl, writing poetry as a teen, and creating many short stories in between, all of which she has kept.
"Debut, "Succumbing to Scars and Sorrow" (book 1 of the Sorrow Series) in August 2013. It is boundary pushing and taboo, but I wrote it with sensitivity and grace. Giving women like Lyla a voice is important to me, because they deserve a place in the world of HEA. I released my prequel novella, "Secrets of a Broken Girl" in December 2013. It tells the story of Lyla's heartbreaking journey from the beginning of her troubles. I wanted to provide insight to my readers on the depth of her sorrow, painting a clearer picture of why she is the way she is. My second novel, "Shadows of Scars and Sorrow" (book 2 of the Sorrow Series) is due to be released in April 2014. It is told from my male lead's POV, and I am anxious to put it in the hands of my readers!"
Mary is a tattoo lover, coffee addict, and a fangirl of many fictional men!

  • Marshall Dane, Son of a Preacher Man Takes on Nashville
Marshall Dane’s infectious blend of country and rock is set to blaze a trail in 2014. Country by definition, but fueled by rock and roll and infected with a watermelon-sized helping of hope, love and salvation, Marshall’s the kind of guy you want to have on your side when the going gets tough in this world and his new album, One Of These Days is set to be your alibi.
Launched in May 2013, in time for last year’s CMAO Awards – for which he was nominated in several categories including Male Artist and Album Of The Year – and featuring the single and title track, “One Of These Days”, Canadian Country Artist Marshall Dane’s latest album puts life back in to the swing of things, driven by a swirling blast of fabulous melodies that gives you a country rush right from the get-go.
One of These Days has country in its veins, topped up with doses of rock, pop and a side helping of soul. This latest collection is never far away from a radio-friendly corner, whether it’s the thrill of “Living It Up” or the reflective energy of “How Do I Get There From Her,” or the rollicking new single, “Alcohol Abuse,” set for February 2014 release in the US and worldwide.
Born in Southern Ontario, Marshall grazed on a rich fix of music, from the country sounds of his preacher dad – “He first taught me how to play “– through his mum – in his own words the strongest, toughest, hardest working woman he’s ever met – who played piano in the evenings to his four sisters and two brothers and through his own musical discoveries from John Denver to Michael Jackson
He has opened for Alan Jackson and Emerson Drive, played at the 2011 CCMA Awards and toured on his own.

  • Lake Street Dive Starbucks Music Pick of the Week Stops By to Chat
Selling out Carnage Hall just a few nights ago, Lake Street Dive heads to Colbert Nation for an encore and was featured on The Ellen Show Today!
FAN: I was in the audience tonight at the Colbert Report and during the Q & A asked: "What's on your Ipad/What are you listening to these days?" His reply? "Lake Street Dive" - Just wanted to let you know!
Celebs like Katie Curic, Kevin Bacon and Francis Mcdormand recently tweeted out her love for this jazz band.
Lake Street Dive makes the most of pop music virtues: solid, evocative song craft; propulsive grooves; and Price’s disarming, forthright vocals. However, it’s a personal strain of pop that is refracted through the band members’ rich backgrounds: a sinewy Motown bass line is reborn with woody heft on Kearney’s upright, Calabrese’s drumming mixes timekeeping with more adventurous jazz-inflected outbursts, McDuck’s nimble trumpet is an unexpectedly warm counterpoint to Price’s singing. It all makes for a sound with familiar roots, but with a slant that is entirely their own. Lake Street Dive’s eventual artistic breakthrough came not without struggle, and still surprises original instigator Mike “McDuck”

  • Neodea Italy's Newest Hot Band Lands In America
Born in the first half of the third millennium, the Milan, Italy-based band, Neodea, performs a modern reinterpretation of rock & roll from the U.S., particularly the Seattle Grunge music of the 1990s. Discovered by Cristiano Santini (former leader of the late eighties Italian band called Disciplinatha), they worked together to produce their debut album, “Teorema del delirio” (Delirium Theory) with technical assistance from Francesco Donadello the drummer of the band Giardini Di Mirò. In 2010, thanks to the enthusiasm for the song, “Violet”, the band is invited to play for Amnesty International’s contest “Voci per la libertà” (Voices for the Freedom). In 2011, the band meets Luca Venturi, the producer of well-known mainstream artists like Sugarfree, La Differenza, Barbara Monte and Micaela Foti. Together they produce the EP, “Scorre Lento” (Slowly Flowing) recorded at Sonic Factory with Mauro Isetti and Egidio Perduca and mixed in Metropolis Studio in Milan by Alessandro Marcantoni. In 2013 the Seattle connection grew even stronger, Neodea was invited to perform on a summer tour in the Emerald City. They performed in historic music venues, toured many Seattle rock and rock landmarks and are hosted on hugely popular radio station, KISW, which for the first time broadcasts a non local band on the popular, long-running show, “Loud And Local” stating that Neodea “is a Seattle band, but born in Italy”. Neodea signed a one song contract with London Tone Music and were thrilled to record the song at the legendary London Bridge Studio, the same studio where all of their favorite music was recorded including, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone. http://londontonemusic.com
