6 Weeks to a Better Back brought to you by The Back Pain Project
What is the 6 weeks to a Better Back Program?
The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program was designed by Dr.Brian McKay to help people with serious low back pain to have a starting place to begin healing their own back with exercises. With the new year, people set unrealistic goals that are difficult to meet. If someone with a chronically bad lower back begins to exercise they often fail because the supporting skeletal system can not meet the demands placed upon the spine.
The 6 Weeks to a Better back program takes into consideration that a fresh starting point will allow the body to acclimate to the increased demands being placed on the spine. We have seen people start to exercise vigorously in January and usually end up in more pain. We do not want to see that happen. By starting out with basic stretches the lower back pain sufferer can start to slowly awaken the body. This gives the back pain sufferer a better chance to succeed with gradually more challenging exercises in an organized gradient.
If you truly want to help a bad back get better you have to start with a plan. The exercises and stretches are provided free of charge to encourage the development of healthy habits. A better foundation can be the start of a long continuous journey towards better health overall. Think of it as crawling before walking, and eventually, we want you running!
Right now we are bombarded with gym memberships and diets. How often do our well-intentioned goals go to the wayside? Quickly, old poor habits return and we forget about that diet or exercise program we need. Studies have shown that it takes a sustained commitment to make lasting changes in our lives. The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program was designed to help those who want it the proper start to radically change their lives.
The 6 Weeks to a Better Back Program is only a starting point. Consider it a remedial class or a driver's Ed class before you get your driver's license. Once your structure has a good foundation you will have less chance of falling to the wayside. How many people do you know who have earnestly tried to get off to a good start only to fail in the short term? Do not think that this will cure you of your back pain. In that case, do not bother, stay on the couch with the remote in hand, wishing things would be different.
There is no charge to get started just click the link provided, answer a few questions and the following Monday get started. You will not need any expensive equipment. Bring your desire to change the path you are on. If you choose to do nothing your back pain will only worsen. That same pain can rob you of the joys of life. I look forward to helping you get started on a life of being pain-free.
Thanks, Dr.Brian McKay.

What is Spinal Decompression for Low Back Pain?
About 30 years ago a brilliant neurosurgeon by the name of Norman Sheely decided that there had to be something besides surgery to heal chronic low back pain. He came up with a special traction machine that gently pulls the spinal bones apart. This virtually painless treatment lasts about 20 minutes. It is much more effective if done in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment. If you reorganize the spine and pelvis first you will remove the underlying causes of herniated or bulging discs. When the adjustment is done first and then the herniated disc is nudged back into its proper location using spinal decompression we can expect 70-80% improvement. Here you have a safe alternative to surgery, which has only roughly a 50% chance of working.
Does Insurance Cover Spinal Decompression for Back Pain?
Plain and simply no, insurance does not pay for spinal decompression. It takes years for insurance companies to recognize a valid treatment. Most people pay for their care out of pocket or use health savings accounts.
How many Spinal Decompression Treatments are Needed for Chronic Back Pain?
Usually, 20-24 sessions of spinal decompression are enough to get the disc back to where it belongs. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and is followed up with physical therapy consisting of electric muscle stimulation and heat. The heat has an analgesic effect and the muscle stimulation helps the smaller spinal muscles contract. Studies indicate that spinal decompression for back pain has been reported to be 71-89% effective.
How Does Spinal Decompression for Back Pain Work?
When a disc herniates or bulges the disc puts pressure on the spinal cord or the spinal nerve. Either of these events can be quite painful. What spinal decompression does for the disc is that it creates negative pressure within the disc. The negative pressure creates a vacuum for the cerebrospinal fluid to re-absorb into the disc space. When you squeeze toothpaste onto your toothbrush there is a little that remains outside. When you relieve the pressure on the tube the toothpaste goes back into the tube. This is exactly how spinal decompression for back pain works.
What does spinal decompression feel like?
You really should feel very little the first few treatments. Your spine needs time to acclimate to the infusion of cerebrospinal fluid into the disc space. Think of a dried-out sponge on the side of your sink. You add some water to it and it puffs up to its normal size. That is the intention of spinal decompression for back pain. You may experience some soreness, usually, it is mild and short-lived.

CONCERNED ABOUT lEAKY GUT Why You Should Be w/ Leaky Gut
Your body is under attack and you don't even know it. Many symptoms can be happening and yet you have no idea where or why. So you take an Advil or Aleve and don't pay much attention to the symptoms. Then you learn to live with the symptoms because they are minor and nothing to worry about. So you think.
Were you aware that your immune system is mainly in the intestines? It is estimated that 80% of your immunity resides in the gut. The body was designed to protect you from harm's way. The immune system tries to keep law and order inside our bodies by keeping bad things like bugs and viruses in check. We rely on good bacteria to keep the bad bacteria from taking over. When a bug or virus escapes the good bacterial environment in your intestine they create problems with inflammation.
There are certain endotoxins that are created when the bugs break loose. The big-name for these endotoxins are cytokines which produce what is called a cytokine storm. This is where the body attacks the endotoxins and produces macrophages that create inflammation. In the short term, this is not a bad thing because the macrophages are doing their job. When there is prolonged exposure to these endotoxins the body is constantly inflamed.
Inflammation is a problem for your brain. An inflamed brain is not healthy for you in the long run. So let's try and dumb this down to layman's terms. The wall around your intestine cannot keep the bugs from leaking out. The bugs can sneak past the blood-brain barrier thus causing the cytokine storm. The constant presence of these macrophages can lead to a host of autoimmune symptoms that can take years to manifest with clinical symptoms. Then the problem tends to be addressed with medications to deal with symptoms but not fix the walls of the intestines meant to protect you.
Everyone by now has heard about the benefits of probiotics. These help seed your intestines with nutrients to keep the good bacteria strong. The good bacteria will keep the bad bacteria in check. I personally recommend a good probiotic with a good prebiotic to give your immune system a fighting chance to keep inflammation in check. Core Health Darien is located at 551 Post Road in Darien. Why is standing better than sitting at a desk all day?
Chiropractors see a wide range of spinal problems, and a lot of them have to do with poor posture and prolonged sitting or slouching. Too much lumbar pressure from constant sitting can lead to back pain. Also, extended sitting means your abdominal and hamstring muscles are contracted for hours at a time. This could lead to a weakened core and less flexibility, putting you at higher risk of potential injury and pain. But how do you combat these side effects of sitting when you have so much work to do?
If you ask your chiropractor, they may tell you to take standing and stretching breaks throughout the day, because this allows your muscles to relax. Standing also burns more calories than sitting which in turn helps you combat weight gain. Plus, each time you stand you can actively correct your posture and remind yourself to avoid the temptation to slouch when you sit back down at your desk.
Standing at work, whether it's getting out and going for a quick walk around the office or using a standing desk instead of a traditional one, can increase muscle movement and give your physical health a boost.

Icy shoulder, also referred to as adhesive capsulitis, is a problem defined by tightness and also discomfort in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms usually begin progressively, intensify with time, and after that solve, normally within one to 3 years.
Here is the development of icy shoulder signs and symptoms. It begins with any kind of movement of your shoulder that creates pain, as well as your shoulder's series of motion, begins to become minimal. Normally, this will be disregarded or treated with warm, 10s systems, or NSAIDs. Next off, if there was any discomfort it may begin to diminish at first throughout this next phase. Nevertheless, your shoulder ends up being stiffer, and also utilizing it becomes harder. Watch out since right here is where the shoulder discomfort, as well as difficulty resting, begins to show up.
Relaxing sleep comes to be harder to achieve contributing to boosted pain as scar cells starts to develop in the slim muscular tissue covering called the fascia. Simple motions become gradually a lot more uncomfortable as well as you normally begin to make use of the shoulder less as well as less. This permits greater infiltration of scar-like bonds causing even more shoulder pain and less motion.
Radial Pulsed Shock Wave treatment, also referred to as Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Modern Technology (EPAT) is one of the most sophisticated non-invasive treatment authorized by the FDA. Core Health and wellness has actually been using this effective therapy for numerous years. Here is how it functions, it utilizes stress waves that promote the metabolic process, improve blood circulation and also increase the healing process, allowing harmed tissue to regenerate and heal.
The next part of taking care of a frozen shoulder is to isolate specific muscle teams that we have found to be the genuine perpetrator in adhesive capsulitis. The latissimus dorsi muscles, known as the lats, are the big V-shaped muscle mass that connect your arms to your vertebral column. They aid protect and also stabilize your spinal column while providing shoulder and also back strength. We find the Lats to be shortened. Successive normally the subscapularis is shortened too. The subscapularis internally or medially revolves the humerus. So you can see why it might be associated with frozen shoulder instances, usually these muscle mass are extended to fix the role they play in adhesive capsulitis.
Our findings additionally include a damaged deltoid and also a damaged subscapularis muscular tissue. These must be reinforced to enhance the total feature of the shoulder. Clients report nearly instant enhancement when utilizing EPAT, muscle conditioning, and also muscle mass extending. If you would certainly like more details call Core Health Darien at 203-656-3636 and get the assistance you require. Bear in mind the old means of treating can take years. So if you would such as assist with your shoulder discomfort I suggest you make the call.

There is a set of three of muscle mass on the inside of your knee referred to as the pes anserine. This amusing name is really Latin for goose foot from the means they show up anatomically. the tendons of the sartorius, gracilis, and also semitendinosus muscular tissues, each of which is supplied by a various lower-extremity nerve (femoral, obturator, and also tibial, respectively). It exists surface to the distal tibial insertion of the surface medial security ligament (MCL) of the knee. So why is this vital you ask?
The reality that you have 3 different muscle mass which have 3 different actions you have 3 various nerves managing these muscular tissues. Does not that make you want to state wow? It should. The gracilis flexes the knee, adducts the thigh, and medially rotates the shin on the thigh. The sartorius is special because it can serve as both a hip and also knee flexor. The semitendinosus action is to extend at the hip and also flex at the knee. It also assists the popliteus in rotating the knee inside.
So is it any type of marvel why pain on the inside of the knee can be major? One huge trouble I see is that people with within knee discomfort go to their medical professionals who consequently order MRI's of the knee. The radiology report comes back saying that there is a tear of the curve. Something that should be resolved with orthoscopic surgery. You get the surgical treatment, you do the physical treatment yet your knee still harms. Why is that? The meniscus might not be the prevailing issue
The inefficient muscle mass like the sartorius, graciliis, and semitendinosus might the factor you had the knee pain to begin with. We described all the activities for example the sartorius stumbles upon the front of your thigh, which's pretty near to your knee, isn't it? The semitendinosus is a hamstring muscular tissue. The number of times does somebody with knee pain additionally have limited hamstrings? Quite often from my experience. The gracilis covers a lot of activity it flexes the knee, adducts the thigh, as well as medially revolves the shin on the femur. You do not need to be a physician to understand the role the gacilis can play in knee pain.

Chronic Unrelenting Foot & Ankle Pain?
Tired feet? Painful feet? What makes you so special, understand you are not alone. The feet do not garner enough attention. Many foot issues can be solved with the proper fitting of shoes. Sure you were a size 12 in college, but now you may be a size 13 or 14. Foot size can change especially as we age. The 26 bones of the feet start to spread out and the arch comes under fire as it weakens. So from a structural standpoint, the feet are quite important. When your arch is solidly in place it basically holds up your entire body. So try and put the importance of good feet into a new perspective. It used to be we would go to the shoe store and be fitted by the salesman. That is rarely happening these days. Wearing shoes that fit and support makes sense and can save you from having foot pain.
Chiropractor for foot pain?
Poor alignment of the 26 bones in your feet can cause excruciating pain. It makes sense that when the tiny but all-important bones of the feet misalign that you will experience issues all the way to the low back. Hips start to wear out, the meniscus in the knee starts to degenerate. All this because you didn't have a well-fitted shoe? Sadly, yes it can happen. A chiropractor trained in treating the foot may be the answer to your foot pain. The foot has a large number of specialized nerves that get irritated when the foot is out of balance. Adjusting the feet can be a valuable tool in relieving your foot pain.
Orthotics for painful feet
There are low-cost methods to help stabilize your foot pain. Simply go online and look for a solid insert. The soft inserts do not meet my criteria for added support. If the lower cost inserts help great. If not you have to see a podiatrist for specially fitted inserts that are customized to your feet. This is a more expensive option but I think you would agree that you are worth it. After the chiropractor repositions the bones in the feet the orthotics help prevent a reoccurrence. This is where a podiatrist and a chiropractor can work together to help you with your foot pain.

What does it mean when you have a herniated disc in your back?
A herniated disc often referred to as a bulging disc is a condition that indicates a problem with a rubbery disc between the spinal bones. The disc is made from cartilage and acts as a shock absorber that allows the spinal vertebra to move dynamically with mechanical efficiency. This condition occurs when the soft center of a spinal disc pushes through a crack in the tougher exterior casing. This causes the disc to put pressure on the spinal cord and the nerve roots that exit the spine at the intervertebral foramen. The lower back pain a herniated disc causes can be severe and debilitating.
What are the symptoms of a herniated disc?
If you have a herniated lumbar disc, you may feel the pain that radiates from your low back area, down one or both legs, and sometimes into your feet (called sciatica). You may feel pain like an electric shock that is severe whether you stand, walk, or sit. Time to call yur chiropractor who specializes in treating bulging discs.
Some herniated discs cause no symptoms. Others can irritate nearby nerves and result in pain, numbness, or weakness in an arm or leg. The more chronic the condition of the herniated disc the greater the severity of the pain. Some MRI imaging studies show severely damaged spinal discs, yet the patient has no pain. It should be noted that of the 9 nerve types that exit the spine, only 2 deal with pain. So you should be concerned with other symptoms such as muscle strength loss, as well as numbness and tingling. The numbness and tingling are clinically significant. The nerves causing numbness and tingling are typically large-diameter afferent nerves that send signals directly from the body part to and from the brain. Weakness is a major concern especially in the absence of lower back pain as these large diameter afferent nerves help regulate the autonomic nervous system
Best Treatment for a herniated or bulging disc.
If you leave a herniated disc untreated, you may experience intense, sharp pains, partial paralysis, or the inability to control bowel movements in relatively dire situations. The most effective treatment for a bulging disc or a herniated disc is chiropractic care. A chiropractor will remove the pressure being placed on the herniated disc. Often additional physical therapy is applied to help soothe the overworked spinal muscles. Core Health uses EPAT and spinal decompression to help take additional stress off the bulging disc.

What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one to three years.
Here is the progression of frozen shoulder symptoms. It begins with any movement of your shoulder that causes pain, and your shoulder's range of motion starts to become limited. Usually, this will be ignored or treated with heat, tens units, or NSAIDs. Next, if there was any pain it may begin to diminish initially during this next stage. However, your shoulder becomes stiffer, and using it becomes more difficult. Watch out because here is where the shoulder pain and difficulty sleeping starts to turn up.
Restful sleep becomes more difficult to attain adding to increased pain as scar tissue starts to form in the thin muscle covering called the fascia. Simple movements become gradually more painful and you naturally start to use the shoulder less and less. This allows for greater infiltration of scar-like adhesions resulting in even more shoulder pain and less motion.
Radial Pulsed Shock Wave therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology (EPAT) is the most advanced non-invasive treatment approved by the FDA. Core Health has been using this effective therapy for several years. Here is how it works, it uses pressure waves that stimulate the metabolism, enhance blood circulation and accelerate the healing process, allowing damaged tissue to regenerate and heal.
The next part of fixing a frozen shoulder is to isolate specific muscle groups that we have found to be the real culprit in adhesive capsulitis. The latissimus dorsi muscles, known as the lats, are the large V-shaped muscles that connect your arms to your vertebral column. They help protect and stabilize your spine while providing shoulder and back strength. We find the Lats to be shortened. Next up usually the subscapularis is shortened as well. The subscapularis internally or medially rotates the humerus. So you can see why it might be involved in frozen shoulder cases, typically these muscles are stretched to resolve the role they play in adhesive capsulitis.
Our findings also include a weakened deltoid and a weakened subscapularis muscle. These must be strengthened to improve the overall function of the shoulder. Patients report almost immediate improvement when using EPAT, muscle strengthening, and muscle stretching. If you would like more information call Core Health Darien at 203-656-3636 and get the help you need. Remember the old way of treating can take years. So if you would like help with your shoulder pain I suggest you make the call.
