Not Just Crew's Trevor & Simon chat to Luis Cabrera (Former CEO of The Lonely Planet and current CEO of Budget Travel (US)
The lonely planet was founded in 1972 by Tony and Maureen Wheeler as they travelled through Europe, Asia and Australia. It was an immediate hit on a 1970s hippy trail and of course backpackers across the globe. It quickly became an iconic brand, and with the coming computer age, the Lonely Planet made several unsuccessful attempts to publish it in a digital format. With falling sales Luis Cabrera was brought in to save this famous brand and to bring it into the digital app age, which he achieved successfully.
He went on to work with many brands, his latest becoming the CEO of Budget Travel in the US
A big thank you to Luis Cabrera for appearing on Not Just Crew, this is a conversation we really enjoyed, and we will follow the future of Budget Travel with interest. We would of course love to thank the Lonely Planet for all the adventures they have helped create for their readers.
