She discusses finding camaraderie with her teammates and achieving personal bests. Lindsay also has a passion for fostering cattle dogs with her partner Ian Dobson and their rescue cattle dog Chap.  During the episode, Marcum talks about how she's found a sense of belonging through the running community, motivations, and her favorite type of food (spoiler: its pasta) and many other topics. Tune in to listen to her inspiring story.

  • Episode 12: Winter Training

     Episode 12
    "Winter Training"

Today, I'm talking about how to get through the winter season, compartmentalization, goal setting, enjoying the process, being flexible and how to try and avoid a "groundhogs day" situation.  I also share with you some of my favorite riding kit and gear I take with me while I'm out on the bike.

This is the final episode for Season 1 of the Not Last Podcast, I am going to take the next week to get everything setup and outlined for Season 2. I'll be bringing in new guests to chat with,  along with some new and exciting content for me to create and you to enjoy. Thanks to everyone who has tuned in and helped spread the word about my little project. I'm having a lot of fun making it and I hope you're enjoying tuning in.

Recap of the kit I talked about in this episode

    • Le Petit Velo is the best cycling kit I've ever worn, check them out, it's a small company that really does it right. Use code "Andrew" at checkout for 15% off your order.
    • Defeet socks are the best socks and warmers
    • Rothera caps are the best handmade in the US caps
    • Rapha really nice kit, but also really expensive, their rain jacket though is my favorite, well worth it when they have a sale.
    • Roadid -  I don't mention this in the episode but it's an essential piece of kit I have on me at all times. We never plan for accidents to happen, but this thing has literally saved my life a couple of times.
    • 100% sunglasses- big lenses, interchangeable, lightweight and well made

    • Other bits of kit I use on the bike:
      • Small bar bag for extra food/clothing
      • Frame pump - the full size one, you'll never regret it, I promise you. my favorite one is made by Silca
      • Flat kit - for tube or tubeless systems
      • Tire lever - Pedros
      • Toe strap - you'd be amazed by the amount of things you can do with a toe strap.
      • Small multi tool - something just enough to get yourself home/ minor adjustments.
      • Zip ties - just a few
      • gorilla tape - wrapped around your frame pump (oh the possibilities...)
      • Pocket knife - tiny swiss army knife
      • 2XL yellow dish gloves - you'll thank me later
      • Emergency space blanket - I've been on the side of the road with everything from a broken shoulder to a flat tire in the winter when hypothermia can set in, or if not for yourself for your riding partner if something goes wrong. I promise you'll find a very good use for it if you need help on the side of the road.

                                                                       ******** NOTE******
ALL of this can fit into a medium sized tool roll or saddle bag, if you don't believe me, I'll send you photos of my setup. You too can have the Mary Poppins of roadside assistance and nobody has to know but you'll have the piece of mind that you can fix almost anything while out riding. If you have questions on any of this, don't hesitate to reach out.

  • Episode 11: Good Times

    Episode 11

    "Good Times"

2020 is best described as a dumpster fire, and it's time for some levity. This week I'm sharing some good ol' cycling stories of days past. My introduction to cycling and the everlasting bonk, riding up Alpe d Huez and climbing Pikes Peak on a 20" folding bike.

For everyone listening in, here are 3x things for you this week.

    1. Stay on Target - don't lose focus, you got this

    2. Vote!  - end of discussion

    3. Small Victories - take time to savor the small stuff, buy the bag of M&M's, eat the cookie, spend a few more minutes outside, slow down just a little and enjoy things a bit more

  • Episode 10: Perseverance

    Episode 10

    "The Art of Perseverance"

Today I'm talking about an inspiring story from Diana Nyad who swam from Cuba to Florida unassisted, at 64 years old. You can find the NPR story here

Just as inspirational are the stories from the final competitors at Kona to come across the finish line, here is just one of the the many amazing videos of the event (these are also good to watch on the trainer if you need a break from Zwift).

I also share my own story of perseverance and determination.

Finally, here are 3x reflections I'll leave you with for this week.

    •  Think back to when you've struggled in the past, how did you get through it?

    • Whatever your current struggle is, know that you are strong enough to get through it. My mom always tells me, "this too shall pass." like most moms, she's right.

    • Take inventory of your mental toolbox, make sure you're using everything you have. If you're out of options, don't be afraid to reach out. We all need extra help sometimes, you're not weak for doing so.

Until next time, stay on target.
