Christopher Columbus, the first European explorer to document the Americas, has seen his name tarnished in recent decades as some historians have labeled him as a brute responsible for the genocide of Native Americans.  These claims are mostly unfounded, but that didn't stop an angry mob in Baltimore from desecrating a statue of the explorer.
