In this episode of Not Your School's Library, your hosts Maddie and Nicole discuss Maddie’s favorite rom-com book pick, Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. The pair dives into all the major plot points (yes, even the part with the raccoons?!). They break down the characters’ decisions, share their favorite and least favorite moments, and explore which characters they loved... and which ones they could’ve done without. They also dissect the major tropes throughout the book, some classic, some not-so-loved by our hosts, and give their final ratings and reviews of the book. This week, they’re joined by fellow book nerd Avery Grant, who jumps into the conversation to play some of the podcast’s signature bookish games and share her own review. Will she agree with Maddie’s glowing take or side with Nicole’s more critical perspective? Tune in to find out whose team she’s on. Get ready for fun segments like “Would You Rather,” “Red Flag–Green Flag,” and “Hit or Miss: Trope Edition,” all based on the book of the episode. If you want the inside scoop before or after picking it up, totally up to you. Just be warned, there are many spoilers throughout! This episode is packed with hot takes, laughs, and a few unexpected twists—just like the book itself. So grab your book, find a cozy nook, and settle in as Maddie, Nicole, and Avery debrief, debate, and discuss all the drama in this week’s episode. Will Nicole become yet another fan of Abby Jimenez’ “Just for the Summer” just like Maddie, or will she choose to disagree…? Tune in to find out, you won’t want to miss it!
Welcome to the first episode of Not Your School’s Library, where romance book enthusiasts Maddie & Nicole recommend books for each other — and you! — to read each week. In this particularly playful episode of Not Your School’s Library, Nicole is recommending Maddie one of her favorite books by one of their favorite authors: “Funny Story” by Emily Henry. What starts as a devastating break-up and Daphne’s fiancé leaving her for his girl best friend becomes a sweet story of love, home, and belonging. First, the gals talk about what made this book so fun — or funny — to read, their thoughts on the roommates and enemies-to-lovers trope, and where Miles fits into the BBB (Book Boyfriend Bracket). They play Dusting the Shelves and Would You Rather, and they have a fellow romance book lover on to give a different perspective. Maddie relates the book to her favorite Emily Henry selection, “Happy Place,” and they discuss the differences and similarities across Emily Henry’s bibliography. They discuss other books that fans of this one would love, what tropes are their favorites, and all of the heartwarming, hilarious, and romantic moments. Don’t listen to this episode if you haven’t read the book yet, because it’s spoiler-loaded, and definitely don’t listen if you aren’t an Emily Henry fanatic like these two. But if you are — definitely tune in, because you’ll be able to play along in the games and discuss the book with your favorite podcast book club.
