As we continue our discussion about studying the arts in an academic setting, we interview teacher, conductor, singer, and graduate student Devon Steve. Devon explains his teaching philosophy, shares his experiences as both a student and a teacher, and discusses the racial divide inherent within the current academic structure. Danielle and Devon also reminisce about the challenges of their education at the same undergraduate school, and Devon shares his thoughts on how the world of higher artistic education can better serve its students.

Now that we've re-entered school to earn our graduate degrees, we wanted to talk about our experiences with the arts in an academic setting and how studying music in an academic context both helped and hindered us in our careers. Danielle talks about losing her voice in undergraduate school, Jack speaks on losing confidence due to the pressures of competition and comparison, we discuss the differences between our undergraduate and graduate experiences thus far, and we speak about the importance of continued arts education, particularly in the United States.

In our first episode back after our *unplanned* hiatus, we talk about what we did and learned during our summers. We also discuss our return to academia, why we both chose to get our Masters degrees, and our experiences transitioning to graduate school this semester after living life outside the classroom for a few years.

We're back! After a rather long, unplanned hiatus, we're back to talk about our journeys towards becoming professional musicians. We've both been experiencing and processing a lot, and we're excited to share some of the things we've discovered over the summer and the past few months in graduate school. Thanks for sticking around through the break, and we'll see you here next week!

In this episode, we welcome author, digital artist, digital brand and marketing manager, designer of the Note-worthy logo, and very special guest, Vicki Scott! We discuss finding our perspectives and how they can change as we change, Vicki speaks on her shifting relationship with writing, and we share our experiences with acting in service to our arts (both musical and written). And, we reminisce about 90s fiction from our childhoods.
We also touched briefly on Vicki's experience of shifting her writing perspective as her partner transitioned - to hear more about Vicki and her partner's story, check out 'She/Her/Hers Podcast' on Apple podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/she-her-hers-podcast/id1448139567

Our topic this month is 'finding your artistic identity.' We interpret 'artistic identity' to mean a) where our careers fit within our field of work, and b) our particular style of creation ('voice,' 'sound,' 'perspective,' 'opinion,' etc.). We discuss our struggles to find our unique perspectives, things that have helped us through this process, and external factors that affect our artistic expression.

It's been a minute, but we're back, and we have a very special episode with Minnesota based actress, director, choreographer, voice teacher, and theater company founder Sharayah Bunce! We had so much to say on the subject of auditioning that we split this episode into two parts. In part 1, we discuss Sharayah's experiences as both auditionee and auditioner, Sharayah gives some audition tips, and Danielle and Sharayah geek out about their audition prep processes.

This month's topic is auditioning and, for artists whose art incorporates less of an on-stage, performance component, sharing your work. We discuss differences and similarities between our processes when putting ourselves or our work out into the world for people to hear and see. We also discuss what prevents us from going through this process, and how we overcome these obstacles.
We apologize for the background noise - someone mowed their lawn during our recording. We removed as much of the noise as possible. Their lawn looks nice though.
