One of gaming’s biggest annual holidays, the launch of a new Call of Duty game, is here once again, and it’s a bigger deal than usual this time around with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This is a new Call of Duty for a new console generation, and if the reviews coming in are any indication, the series is entering the next generation on the right foot. After leading the franchise’s foray into more sci-fi-heavy titles throughout most of the 2010s, Treyarch has borrowed a note from last year’s Modern Warfare reboot and taken the Black Ops subseries back to its Cold War-era roots. In doing so, however, the studio has shaken things up with new multiplayer modes and key gameplay tweaks to both existing multiplayer and the returning Zombies mode. All of this is on top of a new dynamic single-player campaign developed by Raven Software that lets players’ decisions affect how it ends.

The PlayStation 5 finally launched yesterday, and to accompany the release, rapper Travis Scott made an epic 10-minute video celebrating the new console. The video, “A Travis Scott + Cactus Jack Experience - PS5: Unboxing Reimagined,” doesn’t actually feature an unboxing at all — it’s something more like a short film. Unsurprisingly, there’s a decent amount of gameplay footage, showing off Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Astro’s Playroom, Horizon Forbidden West, and more. But all of that is in the first few minutes, after which the video goes beyond just being a sizzle reel of games. Scott, for some reason, plays a PS5 on an enormous TV in the middle of a desert. Later, he personally gifts PS5s to two lucky kids from a PS5-themed van in a parking lot. Then, the video cuts to a musical performance by James Blake. After that, there’s a tribute to Pop Smoke, a rapper who died in February. The whole video is unlike any console marketing I’ve ever seen.

At noon Thursday (Nov. 5), Maluma and The Weeknd dropped a surprise new bilingual version of “Hawái,” featuring the latter singing the opening verses in English and the chorus in Spanish. In other words, this wasn’t a last-minute, let’s-slap-this-together remix, but a let-me-write-a-new-verse-and-work-on-my-Spanish collaboration. Still, recording of the song, filming the video and releasing it Thursday jointly between Sony Music Latin and RCA took only a month’s time. Originally, Maluma didn’t want to do a remix, says Miguel Lua, who oversees Maluma’s music career and strategy in partnership with WK president Walter Kolm. As it turns out, Maluma doesn’t have any bilingual remixes, and in this particular case, he wasn’t looking for one. “But we did discuss that if we ever did a remix, regardless of who it was, it had to be someone big," says Lua. "He had a short list of artists he wanted to work on in general.”

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has finally been announced as one of two surprise reveals during BioWare's small but satisfying N7 Day festivities. In a blog post composed by VP and Studio GM Casy Hudson, the long-rumored remastered trilogy was finally made real. In a surprise twist, however, that game is not the only Mass Effect project underway.  Starting with the Mass Effect Legendary Edition news first, it's confirmed that the $59 package includes the first three Mass Effect games plus all DLC and promo weapons, armor and packs. The complete slate of content has been fully remastered for Xbox One, PS4 and PC with support for 4K Ultra HD. As for the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 that are just around the corner, they'll be getting platform-specific forward compatibility enhancements as well. As for what form these tweaks will take on any platform, updates to textures, shaders, models, effects, and technical features are mentioned in the source post. It's also said the new builds will have "super-sharp resolution, faster framerates and beautiful visual enhancements." While an exact release date is not yet known, Hudson said Legendary Edition is expected to arrive in spring 2021.

Atlanta police have charged a 22-year-old with murder in the fatal shooting of Chicago rapper King Von outside a downtown nightclub Friday morning. King Von, whose real name was Dayvon Bennett, was among six people shot when a fight outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge erupted in gunfire, police said. He was 26. On Saturday, investigators said they secured warrants charging Timothy Leeks with murder in Bennett’s death. “Mr. Leeks is in police custody at Grady Hospital where he is undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker told AJC.com. “The homicide of Bennett is closed with this arrest.” Police initially said Bennett was among three people killed in the shooting, but investigators clarified Saturday that two people were killed while a third remains in critical condition. The names of the additional victims have not been released, and it’s still unclear who shot them.

Nicki Minaj, NBA YoungBoy and Mike Will Made-It on Friday (Nov. 6). The song, "What That Speed Bout," finds the collaborators trading verses over a dynamic beat. The accompanying music video features Minaj while she was still pregnant, decked in a lime green two-piece set and metallic thigh-high boots, with her baby bump on display. YoungBoy matches the futuristic aesthetic in a white vest over a blue and white mesh long sleeve shirt. Back in September, Minaj gave birth to a son -- her first child with husband Kenneth Petty.
