The Noppera-bō (のっぺらぼう), or faceless ghost, is a Japanese yōkai that can look like a human but has no face. Such creatures were thought to sometimes transform themselves in order to frighten humans as much as possible. They appear at first as ordinary human beings, sometimes impersonating someone familiar to the victim, before causing their features to disappear, leaving a blank, smooth sheet of skin where their face should be. Some are said to have gaping black mouths.

There are reports like this across the globe, each country having a variation but the central details are the same, an entity or being that appears in a way to entice you then it's true self is revealed.
