In the previous episode, I recommended having at least 2-3 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting before entering a nurse practitioner (NP) program.
BUT, what about primary care experience???🤷♀️
In this episode, I explain why working in primary care as a registered nurse helped to become a family NP😘

About ME:
Hi I’m Miki Miura, DNP, APRN, FNP-C👋
I’m a family nurse practitioner (FNP) in Hawaii, USA.
I was born and raised in Japan🇯🇵. I moved to the U.S. to become an NP when I was 25 years old after working as a registered nurse in Japan✈️
English is my second language, but I graduated from my master’s program (MSN FNP program) as a valedictorian👩🎓 I have a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree as my final nursing degree.
Studying abroad wasn’t easy, not only to study but also because of the stress of financial burden and visa situation. But over the last ten years of higher education in Japan and in the U.S., I figured out how to be efficient in studying and working so that I can enjoy my time👍
As one of my mottoes is “WORK HARD, PLAY HARD” (which, by the way, is my favorite phrase I learned from American culture😄), I do a lot of fun stuff 😆 While I see patients at three clinical practices, and run online coaching business, I surf three to four times a week🏄♀️ and go on a vacation every three to four months🏝️
This ideal work-life balance is possible for you….if you learn how to study/work smart!!!💪

Especially after the pandemic happened, different types of nurse practitioner (NP) programs became available. There are 100% in-person (in-class), 100% online, and hybrid programs, which offer a mix of in-person and online education.
In this episode, we discuss the pros (advantages) or cons (disadvantages) of each type of NP education✨
