Psychiatrists in New South Wales' public hospitals have welcomed a 20 per cent interim pay rise, after the state's Industrial Relations Commission ruled that poor salaries are leading to compromised patient care.

It comes after more than 200 psychiatrists tendered their resignations earlier this year.
