Wheeler County, Oregon – The lightning-caused Rowe Creek Complex, which started around July 15, 2026, has burned hundreds of thousands of acres in north-central Oregon.

Video filmed by the Oregon State Fire Marshal shows firefighters and equipment operating amid active wildfire conditions, with smoke, flames and dry terrain visible during an intense period of fire activity.

As of late July, the Rowe Creek Complex remained a major incident with significant resources assigned. Multiple fires had merged, while evacuations continued in nearby areas.

Resources were also sent to the Grasshopper Fire in Wasco County and to Warm Springs to help protect communities there.

Officials warned that hot, dry conditions can cause fires to take off quickly and urged residents to follow local sheriff’s offices and evacuation orders when issued.

Isle of Palms, South Carolina – Intense thunderstorms on July 26, 2026, brought flash flooding across Isle of Palms and nearby Mount Pleasant as several inches of rain fell in a short time.

Video filmed by Isle of Palms Police shows a residential street overwhelmed by floodwater under pouring rain. Water covers the roadway as heavy rain reduces visibility.

Palm trees line the flooded street, while a pedestrian crossing sign and mailboxes remain visible along the roadside.

Multiple roads, including sections of Palm Boulevard, were closed because of high water. Residents were urged to stay indoors if they did not need to drive.

South Texas, USA – SpaceX’s Starship Flight 13 lifted off at 6:51 p.m. EDT on July 24, 2026, beginning a test flight that lasted just over one hour.

The massive rocket’s Super Heavy Booster separated successfully, performed a flip and returned toward Earth. However, only five of the 13 planned engines appeared to fire during the landing burn, causing the Booster to hit the Gulf waters harder than planned.

The Ship upper stage successfully deployed all 20 next-generation Starlink Version 3 satellites during its suborbital flight. The satellites later fell back to Earth and burned up as planned.

Starship then reignited one of its six Raptor engines before beginning reentry. Cameras captured the spacecraft surrounded by super-hot plasma as it plunged back toward Earth.

The spacecraft performed a three-engine burn to flip into a vertical landing position, then shifted to two engines and finally one before tipping over and floating belly-up in the Indian Ocean.

The Ship remained intact and transmitted telemetry, with its six engines, flaps and other systems visible. SpaceX called it the “softest splashdown” Starship has achieved.

Roxborough, Colorado – Sheriff’s deputies responding to a reported break-in arrived to find two bear cubs still inside the home, ransacking the property and feasting on cat food.

The two sibling cubs had climbed through an open window to explore the house, creating an unusual scene for deputies who arrived at the residence.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife personnel responded and helped deputies escort the young bears out of the home and back into the nearby woods.

Officials urged residents to remain bear aware following several recent bear encounters. They advised securing trash, bringing in bird feeders, keeping pet food indoors and locking lower-level doors and windows.

Treviso, Italy – Extinction Rebellion staged a nonviolent artistic performance in central Treviso on July 24, 2026, to denounce the consequences of the ecoclimatic crisis and government inaction.

One person balanced on a block of ice that was slowly melting, with a noose around their neck. Around them, other people represented societal indifference and institutional inaction by continuing their activities as the situation became increasingly precarious.

Corinna, one of the participants, said the performance represented the consequences of decades of inaction and investment in fossil fuels. “Extreme heat is a political choice,” she said.

The performance came during a summer marked by exceptional temperatures and heat waves. June 2026 was the hottest June ever recorded in Western Europe and the second hottest globally, causing more than 10,000 deaths in Europe.

In the Po Delta, drought and a roughly 70% reduction in river flow have encouraged saltwater intrusion that threatens crops. In Sacca di Goro, water temperatures reached 32 C, causing mussel and clam die-offs and severely affecting a major Italian shellfish farming district.

Eastern North Pacific – Hurricane Genevieve was a powerful Category 3 storm on July 27–29, 2026, located hundreds of miles southwest of Baja California and moving west-northwest over open ocean.

Time-lapse satellite imagery from GOES-19 shows the hurricane’s well-defined circular eye at the center of the storm. Tightly wound spiral rainbands rotate around the clear center as the system moves across the ocean.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.

Washington Terrace, Utah – Intense orange flames and thick smoke race uphill toward a residential backyard as the Adams Fire burns through dry grass and brush on July 27, 2026.

Video filmed by Utah Fire Info shows the fire front advancing toward homes, with a swimming pool and blue pickleball and tennis courts visible in the foreground beneath hazy skies.

The Adams Fire burned approximately 45 acres and was 10% contained. Evacuation orders were lifted for most residents, while the lower area south of 5700 South, Combe Way, remained under an evacuation order.

Two people were injured, and one resident later died from severe burns. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Kīlauea, Hawaii – Kīlauea, one of Hawaii’s largest and most active volcanoes, has erupted, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory of the US Geological Survey.

Lava fountains from the volcano’s vent have reached heights of up to 110 meters (360 feet).

The north fountain later dropped to about 350 feet (110 meters) after five hours of eruption. The UWD tiltmeter recorded about 11 microradians of deflation, equaling an eruptive volume of 4.5 million cubic yards (3.5 million cubic meters).

Paros, Greece – A major wildfire broke out around midday on July 28, 2026, near the Kampi area and landfill site on the island’s southern side.

East of Franklin, Pennsylvania – A brief funnel cloud was spotted around 6:19 p.m. on July 28, 2026, during severe thunderstorms that produced tornado warnings and damaging winds across parts of eastern and central Pennsylvania.

Video filmed by Jaiden Meyer shows a distinct funnel cloud extending downward from a dark, rotating storm base over the rural countryside.

The funnel remains visible for much of the footage as the camera, filmed from a moving vehicle, captures green fields, houses, trees, power lines and an American flag whipping in the wind.

The formation appears beneath heavy overcast skies as the storm moves across the Pennsylvania landscape.
