The man accused of laying in wait with a gun near former President Donald Trump’s Florida golf course in an apparent bid to shoot the former president wrote a letter months earlier describing an “assassination attempt” and offering a bounty on Trump’s life, U.S. prosecutors say. Ryan Routh is due to appear at a hearing on Monday at which prosecutors will ask a judge to keep him in jail until his trial. In a court filing released before the hearing, prosecutors said that several months prior to the incident, Routh dropped off a handwritten letter addressed “to the world” that offered a bounty on Trump. Routh has been charged with two gun crimes and has yet to enter a plea.

Trump said in an interview released on Sunday that he will not make a fourth consecutive run for the presidency if he loses the Nov. 5 election, saying “that will be it.” Asked if he saw himself running again in four years if he is unsuccessful in his third bid for the White House, the former president told Sharyl Attkisson’s “Full Measure” program: “No I don’t. I think that will be—that will be it. I don’t see that at all. Hopefully, we’re going to be successful.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel faces “complicated days” as the Israel Defense Forces shift their focus to the country’s northern border, across which the Hezbollah terrorist group has been firing rockets into Israel in support of its ally, Hamas. Netanyahu appealed for unity as Israel increased airstrikes in Southern Lebanon, saying the operations were aimed at changing “the security balance, the balance of power in the north” after talking with commanders at military headquarters in Tel Aviv.

Israeli troops raided Al Jazeera’s office in the West Bank on Sunday, shutting down the station during a live broadcast. Israel and the Hezbollah terrorist group continue to exchange fire across the border with Lebanon, edging closer to all-out war.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly. He’ll also visit Washington later this week. Zelenskyy wants international partners to help Ukraine achieve what he called “a shared victory for a truly just peace.”

The Georgia State Election Board approved a new rule on Friday requiring counties to hand-count the number of ballots cast at polling stations on election day. The decision comes just 45 days before the election. The House voted unanimously on Friday to pass a bill bolstering Secret Service protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates. The move comes in the wake of two assassination attempts targeting former President Donald Trump. Also on Friday, the acting director of the Secret Service admitted that a breach of protocol occurred before the first assassination attempt, saying the employees involved “will be held accountable.” Israel launched a rare airstrike into a suburban area of Beirut on Friday, killing a senior Hezbollah military official. The House voted unanimously on Friday in favor of a bipartisan bill to boost security for presidential nominees. It required a two-thirds majority to pass due to an expedited process. The bill requires the Secret Service to use consistent standards to determine the number of agents needed to protect presidents, vice presidents, and major candidates.

Georgia’s election board has voted to approve a new rule that requires millions of ballots to be manually counted on election day. Critics warn it could cause delays and errors, while supporters say it will ensure ballot-scanning machines are accurate.

The Israeli military says it killed senior Hezbollah military commander Ibrahim Aqil in an airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Lebanon’s health ministry said the strike killed 9 people and wounded 59 others. The strike inflicted another blow on Hezbollah after the terrorist group suffered unprecedented attacks earlier this week in which pagers and walkie-talkies used by its members exploded.

With just 47 days left until Election Day, both candidates are hot on the campaign trail. Vice President Kamala Harris will appear in a livestream with Oprah Winfrey in Detroit, while former President Donald Trump is in Washington to speak about fighting anti-Semitism in the United States.

The FBI said Iranian hackers reached out to people associated with President Joe Biden’s campaign before he ended his reelection bid. Federal authorities say the hackers sent information stolen from the Trump campaign to Biden staffers. They said there’s no indication that any of Biden’s staff replied. Federal agencies say it’s part of a wider effort to interfere with the upcoming general election.

Israel and Hezbollah engaged in cross-border strikes, as Lebanon reels from deadly back-to-back attacks targeting their electronic devices, including pagers and handheld radios. The attacks left dozens dead and thousands injured.

The Israeli military said on Thursday that it hit Hezbollah infrastructure and a weapons storage facility in southern Lebanon overnight. Israel’s defense minister declared the start of a “new phase” of the war as the country redirects its focus toward the northern front against Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon.

Heightened security measures were in place as former President Donald Trump held a rally in New York on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed a Hispanic leadership conference in Washington.

The Senate will prepare temporary spending legislation to prevent a partial government shutdown at the end of the month, said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). He said lawmakers will spend the next few days trying to find a deal that both Republicans and Democrats can support.
