So, today I wanted to share about my path to becoming a nurse practitioner and also to talk about how there is no one “right” path to doing anything. I hope you find this episode encouraging. You are right where you need to be!

You’re the expert. Did you know that? You. Not your supervisor, not your mentor, not your mama!
The expertise you hold is the kind that can only be built upon the sum of all your best and worst days, all your successful first tries, and all the times that the third time actually wasn’t the charm. That kind of skill and awareness of self comes only from trusting yourself and moving with intention in the direction that best serves you. Recognizing that you hold the ability to trust yourself and act in accordance with what you need is powerful.
In today’s episode, I talk to Cat Golden, the heart behind Nurses Inspire Nurses, and she shares with us all about her experience in leveraging the expertise that comes from that self-trust.

Living in a digital world is awesome. Netflix, Uber Eats, and Instacart aside, the resources we have at our disposal are almost limitless. As technology advances and the way we use the internet changes, there are many new ways that nurses look for and apply for jobs. In some ways, the digital age is beneficial, but there are also some ways that it could be hurting you.
In today’s episode, I talk about those obstacles and about a few strategies for how to overcome them.

Have you ever told someone something personal and vulnerable, and felt like they aren’t actually seeing or hearing you? It really doesn’t feel good. And yet, many times, that is the kind of affect our patients are met with.
Maintaining professionalism is important, and being able to navigate chaotic, high-stakes situations is absolutely vital, but I think in the midst of that, we can also show our patients that we care. And in doing so, we can improve the provider-patient relationship, as well as make a traumatic situation a bit less painful for our patients.
In today’s episode, I want to talk with you a bit about the empathy gap -- about why, at times, it is okay to forego a bit of the calm under pressure to demonstrate to our patients that we care about them, that we understand what they’re experiencing is tough, and that we aren't robots.
