This special early bonus episode honors the life of Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who fled the war in her homeland, only to have her dreams stolen in a senseless act of violence on a Charlotte light rail train.

Iryna was more than a headline. She was a daughter, sister, friend, artist, and dreamer. She worked multiple jobs, studied English, saved for her first car, and dreamed of becoming a veterinary assistant. Her kindness touched everyone who knew her.

In this episode, we share her story through the voices of her family, neighbors, and community. We also explore the bigger questions her death has raised — about safety, mental health, and how we remember those taken too soon.
