Aurika Savickaite is a nurse at heart, originally from Lithuania, with over 20 years of experience in the nursing field.
After moving to the United States, she began working as a nurse in the Medical ICU at the University of Chicago. Driven by a passion for advancing her knowledge, she later pursued her nurse practitioner degree in Acute Care and Geriatrics at Rush University.
During her studies, Aurika became fascinated by the helmet interface used for non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, a subject she explored further in her capstone project.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2019 and 2020, she saw an opportunity to raise awareness about the helmet's effectiveness for COVID patients.
She launched the website helmetbasedventilation.com, gathering evidence-based practices and protocols from Italy, where helmets had been used for over 20 years.
Through her research and advocacy, Aurika played a pivotal role in introducing this life-saving technology to the U.S. healthcare system, showing the world the potential of helmet-based ventilation in treating respiratory distress.
Her work continues to shape discussions around innovative respiratory treatments, especially in critical care settings.
