Gorilla Voltage is a new group on Twisted’s label.  Ape-X is an album of great musicality with metal and rap roots.

Book: The World of Ice and Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin

* This is essentially a cool history book about the world of Westeros.

* It fills in a lot of depth to the backstory of the Game of Thrones series.

* Confused by all the Targaryens, this will clear it up!

Album: AIDS to the People – Vond

The long missing Vond EP “AIDS to the People” has finally been released.  You can go here to get it and many other works by their founder Mortiis.  Mortiis and his various bands were heavily influential on Mike’s music.  This is a long lost gem you won’t want to miss!

* They are super cool, they hold a charge for a long time, they have a cool charge case.

* They run $159 from Apple and there’s a wait. So you should get on the list now.

* I just want to say that I was following her BEFORE Adam Savage posted her Dragon Eye of Sauron video. So there. Anyway, go watch it; it’s uber cool.

Documentary: ESPN’s 30 for 30: This Was the XFL

* Dick Ebersol and Vince McMahon got together and put the XFL on NBC. For One Season.

* After NBC decided to pass on airing the NFL in 2001, Vince McMahon got his chance to create the football league of his dreams.

* Find out about the guy with “He Hate Me” on the back of his jersey.

* Amazingly, a few players went on to actually play in the NFL.

* Sadly, you need to have access to ESPN to watch this one. It’s not up on Netflix.

This week Mike and Kelly discuss Alice Cooper’s 9th album, “Alice Cooper Goes To Hell”.  There are some fun moments on this record, but both of them found parts of it over-produced and not as gritty as some of his earlier work.  That said, an album that suggests hell is actually a disco can’t be all that bad.

While a tour was planned, it ended up being cancelled due to Alice’s heath at the time.  This is a shame, because these clips give us just a hint of the wonderful show that would have been…

* Mohu makes amplified HD antennas to get over-the-air tv stations. There are lots of different models for both indoor and outdoor use.

* Tablo Tuners let you DVR over-the-air channels and also lets you watch different channels throughout the house or on the mobile app.

 

Mel’s Recommendation:

Game: The Long Dark by Hinterland Games

* Yes, I did talk about this game before. There have been a lot of changes since the last time I played, so I’m talking about it again. Sue me.

* It’s a post-apocalypse survival game set in the frozen wilds of Canada. It’s great and lonely with no politicians to bother you.

* It’s available on Steam for PC and on xbox.

* I should probably mention that this game involves permadeath. That means if you die, game over.

Super Duper Alice Cooper – Documentary

One of the best Alice Cooper documentaries out there.  This sheds new (or more) light on the group’s breakup and the “lost albums” Alice did in the 80s.  Alice, Dennis Dunaway, Iggy Pop and John Lydon all join in on the fun.  And Alice’s mom too.

Mike’s Recommendation – (please read below)

Mike recommended cosplay porn this week as a way to bring our country together and heal.  Yes, you will hear him actually state this in the podcast.  He indicated Scooby Doo is his favorite theme in this and Scoob and crew were well represented in the genre.  Yes, you will actually hear him say that in the podcast too.  He did give “Cosplay Babes” a shout out, but fell short of explicitly recommending them (pun intended).
