Dam Sharks!

For your listening pleasure, we bring you the audio version of our LIVE discussion of Dam Sharks, which aired during Sharknado 4 week on Syfy. Dam Sharks is a charming little movie about sharks which somehow end up in a mountain river. Not content with this placid existence, they decide to dam up the river with human body parts. Things get interesting when a group of city folks show up for a corporate retreat. Who will survive, and who will end up in the dam? If you missed it, check it out here.

Speaking of placid existences, we have a couple of special guests this episode. The first is Jeans (@yeungjeans)from bringoutyourgeek.com. Jeans has joined us several times before. And Heather Gilbert (@HeatherGilbert_) joins us for the first time ever. Have you seen Lake Placid vs Anaconda? Then you’ve seen Heather digging a very deep hole to get into a sorority. Does she survive the horrors of Lake Placid? I know the answer, because I’ve WATCHED IT. If you want to watch it too, you can rent the streaming version here.

On to the Dam Sharks discussion!

In the second recap of Mike and Kelly’s journey through the Alice Cooper catalog, they revisit “Easy Action”.  This was less painful than “Pretties for You”, but still not the Alice they know and love (that comes next album).

There are a few fun moments on “Easy Action”, particularly the first two tracks.

That alone was a enough to catapult “Easy Action” to the top of both of their rankings.  It will enjoy a BRIEF stay in the top spot.

We’re huntin’ Pokemon and cooking up some hashbrowns!

Kelly’s recommendation:

App: Pokemon Go!

* Kelly is obsessed with this Augmented Reality iteration of Pokemon. #GottaCatchEmAll

* This goes back to the Pokemon from the original card game.

* Kelly explains the strange terminology of The PokeWorld to a clueless Mel. There are PokeStops, PokeGyms, Lures, Eggs, Evolution, and more! Also watch out for dark and scary PokeStops where scary people may be Luring you. O_O

* Pokemon Go is made by Niantic and is available on iOS and Android.

Kelly’s PokePics: Check out those Pokemon Names…Notice a theme?

Compare to Mel’s PokePics:  #PokemonWasteland

Mel’s Recommendation:

I forgot to take a food selfie. I will fix this the next batch….

Recipe: Cabbage Hash Browns!

* You didn’t even know you wanted these, but you do!

* Do you love hash browns but need to cut out some carbs? Then this is for you folks!

* Here goes:

Cabbage Hashbrowns:

* 1 Cup Shredded Cabbage

* 2 green onions

* Season Salt (or salt and pepper if you prefer)

* 1/4 cup shredded cheese (I’ve used all kinds and they’re all good)

* 1 egg

* 2-3 tbsp Coconut oil (or your preference)

Mix all of the above except for the oil together in a bowl. Heat the oil in a pan over med heat. Spoon half of the mixture into the pan to form one hashbrown patty. Then add the rest in another patty. You will need to fry the patties about 5 min on each side. Make sure it sets up and browns on the bottom before you try to flip it or it will fall apart.

Try it before you knock it people. These are actually very good and satisfying. I LOVE them. DON’T JUDGE ME!

Note: Alternative title for Squat Cobbler 6.66 was “Vaguely acceptable and fighting”

Recommendations:

Mike: tickelishtoes on Fiverr – In the market for a picture of some cute feet?  Tickelishtoes the the ONLY choice.  Squat Cobbler is not only a fan… we are a customer.

Kelly: Figure 1 (app) – Basically “Instagram for doctors”.  Medical professionals share (with the patient’s consent and their privacy maintained) all sorts of rare conditions and maladies.  If you don’t want to download the app, just search “Figure 1 pics” in “the Google” and go to the image view.  Buckle up kids.

Today it’s a podcast recommending other podcasts, but please come back when you’re done.

Mel’s Recommendation:

Podcast: King Falls AM

* Weird things happen on and during a late night talk radio show. Sammy The new DJ from the big city has a lot to learn about this little mountain town. Luckily he has Ben, his cohost, to help him out.

* You will meet some very interesting characters such as, Archie and his Pomchi Palace, Deputy Troy, Jack in the Box Jesus, and the totally upstanding Mayor Grisham.

*  Subscribe at all the usual places: iTunes, or on Play

Kelly’s Recommendation:

Podcast: Reply All by Gimlet Media

* it’s a Show About The Internet by PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman

* They cover a wide variety of topics, all involving the internet and the culture that surrounds it.

* How well will you do at the “Yes, Yes, No” game?

* Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, or listen on their website.

Mike and I begin our album by album review of Alice Cooper records with their first release “Pretties for You”.  While both of us Mike are HUGE Alice fans, the initial albums are a bit of an acquired taste.

In fact, we did everything we could to not talk about this album, so you will get tangents on…

* Cut outs

* Alice’s boxed set

* Monster Dog

* T-shirts

Here are two other songs we talked about, NOT on this album

We will each be ranking the albums as we progress through the Cooper catalog.  Which is neither interesting or informative one album in, but here you go….

MIKE

* Pretties for You – 1969

KELLY

* Pretties for You – 1969

We’ve got a game that oddly mimics politics, and an audio drama podcast to talk about this week!

Kelly’s Recommendation:

Game: Agar.io

* Do you like House of Cards? Did you catch the game recommendation in there? Kelly did.

* Your a dot(cell). You eat other dots. You get bigger. Other dots try to eat you. You possibly die.

* This is a strategy multiplayer game, so you may find some bad humans in there.

* You get to earn coins to buy new skins for your cell and power ups. There’s a strategy to it or you can just blunder around. Whatever makes you happy.

* Available on the web at agar.io, and on iOS, and Android.

Mel’s Recommendation:

Podcast: Uncanny County

* This is an Audio Drama type podcast. Each episode is a stand alone story.

* Mel loves this podcast so much. It’s very steeped in Americana with a weird twist. That could be vampires, god like beings, or robots, and (shudder) clowns.

* There’s a new ep every month and they only run about 30min.

* I knew I was going to love this one from the intro. Check it out below.

Social Media Corner:

Kelly: Dogs in Charlotte: @dogsincharlotte: They post … pictures of dogs in Charlotte, NC from their instagram. Go check it out!

Mel’s Recommendation:

App: Walmart Saving’s Catcher App

* Do you like to dig through the DVD bargain bin? Do you go to Walmart? Then this little app can really help you redeem those free digital copies that are available with those cheap DVDs. Link it up with your VUDU account, scan your receipt and you’re done!

* If you sign up for a Walmart.com account and then scan your receipts, this little app will search through all the local ads for a better price and give you the difference. Let the savings pile up and then redeem it to a gift card!

* If you open the app while in the strore, you can even use it as a price scanner; which is something every store neds to do.

* It’s available through iTunes and for Android.

Here’s my most recent bargain bin aquisition. Isn’t it beautiful?

Kelly’s Recommendation:

TV Series: Star Wars II.V (Cartoon Network 2003)

* It’s FREE on youtube!

* Takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

* This little gem was made by Genndy Tartakovsky, maker of Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack.

* This is all of the episodes strung together with end credits and an opening crawl added. It’s super cool.

We’re Back!

Kelly’s Recommendation:

App: Google Keep

* An organization app made by …… Google.

* Make  to-do lists complete with check marks, video, pictures, and recorded audio.

* Works on android and iOS.

* If Chrome is your browser of choice, you can even install an extension to save things directly to your Google Keep.

Mike’s Recommendation:

Subscription Service: Vinyl Me, Please

* A monthly subscription box that contains a custom pressed LP just for members, an art print inspired by the album, and a cocktail recipe to drink while you listen. Plus, there are coupons to other cool things!

* You just need to provide your own smoking jacket and you’re set.

* Pants are optional.

Mel’s recommendation:

Book: NOS4A2 by Joe Hill

a horror novel about a woman with a very special ability to “find” things, a serial killer/kidnapper with a very special car, and a trip to a very special place called Christmasland.

As you might guess, NOS4A2 is a vanity license plate on the bad guys car. While not a traditional vampire, Charlie Manx is definitely not a good guy, and his hired help may be even worse than him. Vic McQueen and her special ability stumble upon Charlie when she’s a teenager. She survives and he goes to jail, but that’s just the beginning of this story. Years later Charlie and his Rolls Royce Wraith show back up, only this time they’re after Vic’s son.

If you like creepy children mixed into your horror stories, you’ll like this one. It’s also being made into a tv series on AMC.

There’s More! Mike wants you to check out 24th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill too!
