* A Zombie Apocalypse hits on Elimination Night of Big Brother UK.

* Created by Charlie Brooker in 2008, it combines satire and horror to give you a gory look at the Zombie Apocalypse.

* Mel loved the ending!

This week we discuss a sports special Mel might actually watch and relive 8 track glory.

Kelly’s Recommendation:

Documentary: 30 for 30: The 16th Man

* An ESPN Special about Nelson Mandela, the “Springbok” Rugby team, and South Africa’s transition to integrate the nation after Apartheid.

* Narrated by Morgan Freeman. this documentary features interviews with players and various political activists of the time.

* Minimal actual rugby in the special. Which is good, since Kelly has no clue about how the game is played.

* This will be the first of 30 sports specials Mel is going to watch!!!

 

Mel’s Recommendation:

Music Service: 8Tracks.com

* This is a streaming music service that features user created playlists of at least 8 tracks.

* The neat thing here is that you can upload your own (legally acquired) music if it’s not already in their database.

* It’s also available for iOS and Android.

* There are tons of “Fandom” type playlists about particular characters you know and love. I listened to quite a few that were odes to Black Widow.

* We reminisce about the actual real 8 Tracks.

* I uploaded a funny little playlist about Shapeshifter Romance novels.

Mel’s Recommendation:

Website: GraphicAudio.net: A Movie In Your Mind

* A cool company that adapts books into an amazing listening experience with a full cast of voice actors and sound effects.

* Their audiobooks are available as both cd’s and as mp3, m4B, and FLAC.

* If you go the download route, you can use their app (iOS, Android) to download your books.

* I just finished City of the Lost by Stephen Blackmoore and loved it! His first Eric Carter book, Dead Things just released as well.

* They also have a whole slew of Marvel titles including Ant Man.

* Titles are reasonably priced and there are even some short stories that run ~$3.99 you can give a spin. Check them out in the Little Bytes section.

* Oh, and they have Westerns too!

 

Kelly’s Recommendation:

App: Periscope.tv

* Periscope is a live video streaming app that integrates with Twitter to share your experiences with the world.

* It’s available for both Android and iOS.

* Once you start a video stream, your viewers get to interact with you in chat.

* Broadcasters (called Scopers) are broadcasting everything from breaking news to the NSFW type stuff.

* The Nerdist is using Periscope a lot!

* It was directed by Georges Melies IN 1902!

* The FIRST Science Fiction movie ever made!

* Since it’s from 1902, it’s a Silent Movie.

* They may have gotten Astronomers and Astrologers a little mixed up.

*  It’s available on Netflix in both Black & White and Color.

* Also available at Amazon Instant Video (FREE for Prime Members)

Documentary: An Honest Liar

* James ‘The Amazing’ Randi is a ‘magician, escape artist, and world-renowned enemy of deception’.

* Available on Netflix.

* He joined the circus at 16 and became a magician before he decided that he preferred to expose the ‘tricks’ instead of performing them.

* He toured with ALICE COOPER during the Billion Dollar Babies tour!

* He particularly liked debunking famous psychic Uri Geller.

 

 

Mel’s Recommendation:

Game App: Fallout Shelter

* A FREE game on iOS. The Android version will be out soon.

* If your familiar with the Fallout games by Bethesda, this is a fun little add on.

* Build a grow your own Vault in a Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland.

* There’s really very little to spend any real money on, so you can really play for free!

* If you like Tiny Death Star, you’ll like this one too.

App: Retype

* It’s $2.99 on the iTunes App Store. And yes, it’s only available for iOS devices.

* This is a cool Typography app that comes with built in  fonts, backgrounds, and quotes to use. You can alter almost everything you see on the screen.

* You can, of course, use your own pics as a background and change the quote on the screen.

* I think it will work awesomely for Demotivational Posters. Like this one. I’m Sorry.

 

 

Kelly’s Recommendation:

TV Show: The Mike Tyson Mysteries

* Kelly went to Canada recently to watch some Canadian Netflix, which has this gem of a show.

* In the US, it’s available on Adult Swim.

* Mike Tyson voices his own character, and Norm MacDonald voices a dirty pigeon.

* It’s very reminiscent of  Scooby Doo and Jonny Quest, only a little dirtier.

* Described as “The Excitable Boy” grows up.

* Jesus Mentioned: A slow crooner about Elvis’ pill popping.

* ‘Ain’t That Pretty At All’: Warren is not impressed.  About ANYTHING!

Book/Audiobook: ’14’ by Peter Clines

* A cool Lovecraftian Horror/ Mystery/ Steampunkish story set in modern day L.A.

* Nate moves into an oddly inexpensive apartment building. It turns out that the building has some distinctly odd things going on. There are mysterious padlocked doors, apartment doors with no doorknobs, and some strange neighbors. Oh, and someone is watching the building too. Nate and his new friends start investigating, but things just keep getting more and more weird. And then people start dying.

* Ray Porter narrates the audiobook and does a great job.

Book: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo

* Yes, Mel read a book about being a slob.  The book claims that if you follow the method outlined in this book, you will NEVER be a slob again. Ask me for an update in a year, folks.

* Despite the subject matter, I found this book to be very entertaining. The author does anthropomorphize her belongings and her house, but I found it to be charming as well as kooky.

* Essentially, it’s based on discarding everything that doesn’t ‘spark joy’.

* Check out YouTube for a lot of videos of people trying this method out on camera.

* While I didn’t film the horror of my clothes closet, I found my heap of clothes extremely alarming and actually was able to gather together 5 big garbage bags of clothes to donate. This is especially amazing as I supposedly had cleaned out this closet only 6 months ago…

 

Kelly’s Recommendation:

 

Store: Sam’s Club

* Possibly the most well-known Member’s Only Bulk Buy Club.

* Get great deals on electronics and even get lunch by grazing the samples on offer! And there’s also the 4ft tall Shotgun Whiskey Decanter!

* Don’t forget the ginormous tank of Cheeseballs!

* And then there are really cool deals like Kelly’s new Pergola! (I want one! ~M)

* If you haven’t checked out Sam’s recently, you might give it another look. (I didn’t know you could now get a personal account without having a business. Cool! ~M)

* Graham has reunited with his original band – The Rumor!

* This is a diverse album with an angry-ish Graham (Kelly like his Parker angry)

* A fun city building, resource gathering, crafting, zombie and goblin killing game by Radiant Entertainment.

* It’s an Early Access game, so it’s not quite done, but is absolutely playable right now.

* Oh yeah, and it will be moddable too!

* You can pick it up over at Steam, the Humble Store, or from Radiant directly.
