  • Episode 79 – Pointless Fun Stacking Leopards and Foxes
We are super happy to have Special Guest KAREN THUL on this episode! We hope she’ll return….

    Mel’s Recommendation:

    Movie: Bringing Up Baby (1938)

    * Mel finally has a recommendation older than Kelly’s!
    * Stars Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant and was directed by Howard Hawks.  This is probably Mel’s very favoritest RomCom/Screwball Comedy EVER!
    * There’s a LEOPARD named Baby, a Zoologist/Paleontologist, Intercostal Clavicles, Screwball Characters
    * SPOILER ALERT: Oddly for Mel, this movie has a happy ending.

You may be able to find this one online somewhere….. Or I highly recommend you just buy it at all the usual places.

    Karen’s Recommendation:

    Game: Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)

    * A very beautiful game that delves into the culture of the Inupiat, an Alaska Native people.  Play as either Nuna or her spirit guide Fox as they try to save their people from an eternal blizzard.
    * Made by Upper One Games, it’s the first of many planned games that are based on unique cultures. It’s definitely worth reading more about over at their site.
    * It’s available on several platforms, but we’re talking about the Steam version here. (Yay PC Games ~Mel) It’s on sale for ~$10 as of this writing) AND the soundtrack is also available. It. Is. Beautiful.

    Karen’s Recommendation #2

    Game: Stacking

    * A cool Dark, Industrial, Steampunky kinda game where you play as the smallest little Russian Stacking Doll on a quest to save your family.
    * You get to jump into other Dolls and use their special abilities (like flying, or passing gas…) to solve puzzles.
    * It’s also available on Steam (and is currently less than $5). (Mel snapped this one up! Thanks Karen!)

    Kelly’s Recommendation:

    Website: PointlessSites.com

    * A site that catalogs Pointless Websites in the categories of Animations, Completely Pointless, Games and Puzzles, Interactive Playthings, etc..  Find things like a talking William Shatner Head, Animated Corgi Gifs, Sad Animal Facts.
    * Hours and Hours of Pointless Fun! You even get to vote.

    Social Media:
Kelly: @PointlessSites: They tweet a Pointless Site every day. (See the awesome one below ~Mel)
Karen: Eat Your Kimchi on Youtube. Simon and Martina share their adventures in Asia!
Mel: is still a social media loser.

  • Episode 78 – THE FUTURE IS AWESOME! (plus kittens)
This week… a little architecture, a little snarkable scifi, and some commentary by some very little kittens.
    Kelly’s Recommendation:

Documentary: Sagrada: The Mystery of Creation (Netflix)

    * A documentary about the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona by the architect Gaudi.
    * It has been under construction since 1882! They hope to have it done in 2026.
    * It has a lot of pillars, towers, and sculptures.  Well, it has a fair amount now, and MANY more are coming.
    * Watch carefully for the odd boy wandering around in the film.  If you figure out what he is there for – tell Kelly.

    Mel’s Recommendation:

    Movie: Survivor

    * It’s FREE for Amazon Prime Members!
    * Stars Kevin Sorbo (a little) and Danielle Chuchran (a lot).
    * It’s a fun, eminently snarkable scifi movie that enjoys parkouring in the desert.
    * It features a revolutionary new gadget for the future: The Interface Arm. THE FUTURE IS AWESOME!
    * Look at the pic below. How can you not love this movie?!

Sorry for the Kitten Interruptions! These little guys might be cute, but they sure are loud! ~Mel

  • Episode 77 – The Alice and The Fury

    Mel’s Recommendation:

    Movie: Mad Max: Fury Road

    * An awesome continuation of the Mad Max story by George Miller starring Tom Hardy as Max and Charlize Theron as Furiosa.
    * Surprisingly, this story isn’t really about Max, it’s about Imperator Furiosa and her attempt at redemption in the violent wasteland that the world has become.
    * It’s hard to fangirl appropriately here without giving away some spoilers that I feel it’s best you experience for yourself, so go see it and come back here and tell me what you thought! ~M
    * There are also some comics planned to delve a little deeper into the story by Vertigo Comics.
    * Here’s a few links to some other fans’ thoughts.

    * Kameron Hurley’s “Wives, Warlords, and Refugees: The People Economy of Mad Max” post. I would absolutely throw money at a God’s War movie. Just show me where!
    * Rob Bricken’s post at i09 “Do You Realize Mad Max: Fury Road is a Miracle?”. Thanks for telling me that Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome is 30 years old. No. Really.

    Kelly’s Recommendation:

Music: A Fistful of Alice ~ Alice Cooper

A live album recorded at Sammy Hagar’s club in 1997 that possibly Alice’s best live album.
Such notables as Rob Zombie, Slash, and Sammy Hagar appear on the album.
This should be your first Alice album if you haven’t yet discovered his awesomeness.
It’s available anywhere fine music is sold, but you can listen on Spotify too or YouTube if that’s your thing.
“I’m looking for a girl with a gun and a job. And a house. With cable.” ~Lost In America

  • Episode 76 – The Long Dark Open Table

    Kelly’s Recommendation:

    App: OpenTable

    * a “Must Have” app for your smartphone if you ever need to make a restaurant reservation.
    * It’s available on both Android and iOS.
    * For all you introverts out there… you never have to interact with an actual human being! At least until you get to the restaurant.
    * It allows you to make reservations at participating restaurants (good ones too!) by what’s available right now, or whenever you like in oodles of areas and even internationally.

    Mel’s Recommendation:

Game: The Long Dark by Hinterland Games

    * a Post Apocalyptic Survival game on PC that pits you against the frozen Canadian wilderness.
    * Try and stay alive to scavenge supplies, stay warm, and find food. You also get to craft some supplies.
    * Essentially  this game comes down to Calorie Management. You need to balance the calories you take in against the calories you put out staying alive. Until the wolves eat you.
    * The game is in Alpha Testing now and is available as an Early Access game on Steam. Make sure to check out the Humble Store too.
    * The Sandbox mode is working now, and when you if you buy it now, you get the full game complete with the actual Story Mode when it is released.
    * Did I mention it’s pretty? See below!

  • Episode 75 – Queen of the Droning Flash Rats

    Mel’s Recommendation:

Comic: Rat Queens written by Kurtis J Wiebe and art by Roc Upchurch and then Stjepan Sejic

    * A fun DnD type romp where some booze-guzzling mercenary chicks behave badly
    * It’s been described as a mix of Buffy meets Tank Girl… which is AWESOME!
    * The issues have been released in collected trade editions, Vol. 1: Sass and Sorcery and Vol 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’Rygoth.
    * It’s great fun and you will love it. I promise.

    Matt’s Recommendation:
Matt Shivers (@MattShiversVO) returns for more abuse!

    TV Series: The Flash

    * A DC Small Screen production of the popular comic that airs on the CW Tuesdays at 8/7 C.
    * Grant Gustin plays Barry Allen aka The Flash
    * John Wesley Shipp, who played Barry Allen in the 90s version of The Flash returns as Henry Allen, Barry’s Dad. And Amanda Pays returns as Dr. Tina McGee! Also, Mark Hamil came back as The Trickster too!
    * Matt teaches Kelly about The Reverse Flash!

    Kelly’s Recommendation:

Tech/Gadget: Parrot AR Drone 2.0 Elite Edition

    * Just like his other Parrot drone recommendation – this drone is VERY stable when left to its own devices
    * It stores video real time to your mobile device or you can hook up a USB flash drive to the drone
    * 10 – 15 minutes of flying time – so you might want to buy a spare battery
    * The drone acts as a wifi hotspot and you connect to it to pilot it
    * Kelly’s neighbors are SUPER thrilled

And here is over 8 minutes of video from Kelly’s first set of flights.  Pretty boring, but you might want to watch until around the 1 minute, 12 second mark, where Kelly nearly rams a tree.

  • Episode 71 – Go Loopy for Lost Wax
In this episode you can learn to make a steampunk hat, and then hang it up ANYWHERE.
    Mel’s Recommendation:

    Website/ YouTube Channel: Lost Wax

    * Yes, more crafting awesomeness. You know I can’t resist Steampunk! ~M
    * Lost Wax is the name of Chris Huebert’s website and YouTube channel. He creates amazingly beautiful steampunk jewelry and also has a number of fun, affordable DIY Steampunk tutorials on Youtube.
    * The tutorial videos are free to watch, but for the detailed plans (with full templates, etc) you give him a few bucks at his gumroad site. Each video has the link to its associated tutorial. They are very affordable at ~$5.00 and only use easily found materials.
    * His newest video, the Steampunk Gas Mask, is one of my favorites! (See below) I don’t have mine finished yet, but I will post pics as soon as I do. STAY TUNED!

     Kelly’s Recommendation:
    Gadget: GoLoopie
