A supportive community may consist of various people, opportunities, and situations. The significance of true support lies in the creation of a safe environment in which you can heal from the impact of loss. This gradual process happens within a time frame that no one can predict. It is unique for every individual. Your circle of support allows that to evolve in its own time without judgement and gentle encouragement. This episode touches on the heart of why our ministry exists – the power of community.
The Motherless Daughters Ministry serves women who have lost or missed the nurturing care of a mother. This may have resulted from death, emotional absence, chronic illness or as the daughter of a narcissistic mother. We seek to provide resources that will encourage, inform, and support you in the healing journey. For information, access to our services, and community, please visit our website at https://www.motherlessdaughtersministry.com/services/.

A container will hold only so much content. Continuing to add more content will make it overflow. With some planning the overflow could be put to good use. Merriam Webster defines a conduit as “a natural or artificial channel through which something (such as a fluid) is conveyed.” We can find ourselves as either a container or a conduit. Which term applies to you?
This episode combines a blog written five years ago with an updated reflection by the author. Gladys Bell has been connected to the Motherless Daughters Ministry since 2005 when she became motherless. Her story includes this testimony about the journey from being a broken vessel to a container and what it is like to experience another transition.

Mother is the initial and most critical element in the development of an infant from conception. Narcissistic personality traits profoundly compromise the natural progression of developmental tasks. By the time the daughter of a narcissistic mother becomes aware there is a problem, her ability to establish and maintain relationships have already become severely compromised…but not impossible to heal.
This episode shines a light on behaviors and experiences that have long been sources of confusion and disappointment. It brings clarity to questionable memories and understanding to experiences that were difficult to describe. Dr. Mary Ellen Collins, the Founder and Board Chair of the ministry, gives a thorough overview of the stages of awareness when discovering that mother is narcissistic.

Periodically, we may look back to reflect on how we made it through a difficult period of our lives. What encouraged us to put one foot in front of the other for the next step? Where did I find the fortitude to survive? Who was there for me?
There are many things that can bring lots of memories that trigger our grief connected to mother loss. Whatever caused the mother loss, we are all impacted well into adulthood. Navigating motherhood without your mother can instigate constant triggers. Today’s episode, again, features our Podcast Administrator, Sarah Lynn Wells, as she discusses why the “Nurturing Words” podcast matters, what is behind her involvement, and why your support is so important.

Any little memory, item, event or odor may trigger our grief over mother loss, regardless of the cause. Whether by death, emotional absence, chronic illness or substance abuse, mothering without your mother is a challenge. The customs and traditions surrounding the back-to-school season can send us spiraling back to previous seasons in our lives.
As we hit August, many of our motherless daughters are, or will soon be navigating the Back-to-School season. Today’s episode features our Podcast Administrator, Sarah Lynn Wells, as she discusses how this season bubbles up emotions for her.

Everyone has a story, a unique set of circumstances and issues that make us who we are. Likewise, as we move through the grief process, it, too, is unique. Your experience will not be like that of anyone else. Like a fingerprint, it is “uniquely yours.” Being “free to be me” means acknowledging that I am not subject to anyone’s parameters for my healing process.

We can all tell you the day and time our lives changed forever. We became mother less in different ways, but ALL of us have had our lives forever changed by our loss – our relationships, our functioning at work, the way we handle situations, run our households and perceive the world.
Healing from the impact of loss is unique to every individual. Many times it involves a flurry of activity and accomplishment, However, there comes a time when you need to simply stand still. Stop! Get off the merry-go-round. Be in the moment. Take stock of your situation, reassess. This podcast shares a few ideas on how to approach that journey.
