  • Nutanix Weekly: Using a Bloomberg Keyboard with Nutanix Frame!

We are very excited to share a demo of the new Generic USB Redirection feature of the Nutanix Frame® DaaS solution (which is now available in Early Access with the release of Frame App for Windows 6.7 and later)!

Generic USB Redirection further expands Frame’s support for USB peripheral devices, including advanced/specialty devices such as Bloomberg® keyboards!

In this blog we will demonstrate the seamless integration of Bloomberg multi-function keyboards within a Frame session via the Frame App. For those unfamiliar, Bloomberg keyboards are specialized devices used by financial services customers to interface with the Bloomberg Anywhere™ solution. The keyboard not only includes Bloomberg-specific function and menu keys, but also built-in speakers as well as an integrated biometric fingerprint scanner for multi-factor authentication into Bloomberg Anywhere.

  • Nutanix Weekly: Why HCI (Nutanix) Truly is a Great Fit for Healthcare Applications

I recently read a blog post from a storage vendor attempting to make the case that HCI (Hyper-converged Infrastructure) is not a good fit for healthcare. They used their strategic partner’s HCI solution, VMware VSAN as the example, but tried to apply their reasoning to all HCI. My first thought was to wonder what Nutanix’s hundreds of happy healthcare customers would think of such an argument. I often meet with customers who make the case to ME on why Nutanix is a great fit for their life-critical applications.

I’ll highlight some of those reasons in this post. And because I’m familiar with the author and his background, I’ll assume that he was writing about the healthcare provider market, and not payors, pharma, or some other sub-market. So, my comments will also be focused on HCI and healthcare providers.

  • Nutanix Weekly: Nutanix Unleashes Flow Networking to Streamline Hybrid Cloud Connectivity

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) has come a long way since its inception in 2009 (check out MIT's review on this). Today, SDN is poised to become the de facto control and management solution for networks everywhere. This trend toward SDN has been accelerated through the exponential digital transformation of the pandemic with customers now looking to hybrid multi-cloud for answers.

Nutanix’s SDN journey chartered a new path in 2018 with SDN, launching Nutanix® Flow Security with Microsegmentation then quickly followed with a robust ID Based Firewall and Security Planning solution. These were the first pillars of our SDN vision.

Fast-following Flow Security, Nutanix implemented the second key pillar of SDN: Network Virtualization, or as Nutanix calls it, Flow Networking™.

First introduced to provide secure multi-tenant network virtualization in Nutanix's managed Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service (or DRaaS) offering, Flow Networking quickly evolved for on-premise Nutanix customers, becoming available for Early Access following its announcement soon after .NEXT 2020.

  • Nutanix Weekly: Getting Started with Red Hat OpenShift on Nutanix HCI

The migration of applications from physical servers to virtual workloads has been underway for over two decades, but the migration from virtual machines to containers is less than a decade old. Modernizing applications to run as containers requires new tooling and the open source Kubernetes project has emerged as the widest adopted container management system.

Kubernetes provides cloud-native capabilities, architecture, and operations which require new skill sets, posing a disruptive challenge to traditional organizations who desire the rapid software updates and performance scaling benefits. Like the Linux operating system, there are many Kubernetes distributions, and Red Hat OpenShift provides a market-leading platform to build, deploy and run applications with a consistent foundation across the hybrid cloud. Red Hat OpenShift includes over-the-air updates, container runtime, networking, ingress, monitoring, logging, container registry, and authentication and authorization solutions.

Nutanix provides simplicity, scalability, and hybrid cloud infrastructure, providing one-click upgrades of storage, compute, and network resources and services on your choice of hardware, public cloud, and service providers. Running Red Hat OpenShift on Nutanix provides a full stack, enterprise supported, standardized solution with greatly simplified platform management and many non-disruptive operations, accelerating the adoption of containers and cloud native applications.

  • Nutanix Weekly: Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure with Nutanix and Microsoft Azure - Part 2

In recent years, and the last 18 months in particular, IT teams have been under pressure to become more agile to support an increasingly hybrid workplace amidst ever evolving business needs. Many businesses have packed years’ worth of digital transformation efforts into a short span of time while operating under reduced budgets. Both private and public cloud vendors are striving to better serve their customers’ needs, which frequently includes running workloads on a mix of on-premises and cloud infrastructure, dictated by workload and business needs.

While the idea of a Hybrid Cloud architecture has been around for a while, there have been several challenges that prevented rapid adoption of hybrid cloud platforms. Managing complex networking between on-premises datacenters and public clouds has been a long-standing obstacle, and re-architecting legacy applications for the cloud can be time-consuming and expensive. Another issue has been the inefficiency created by silos of using multiple different management tools for various clouds.

To address these challenges and power their customers IT needs to the next level, Nutanix is collaborating with Microsoft on hybrid cloud solutions that help blend the boundaries between cloud and on-premises for a true hybrid cloud experience.

  • Nutanix Weekly: Enhancing the Security of Application Delivery in Frame

Nutanix’s Frame® desktop-as-a-service, with its ability to deliver virtual desktops and applications on non-persistent virtual machines, is a key part of the security posture of many customers. When combined with Frame application mode, which eliminates the Windows® Desktop and focuses the end user on a single set of published applications, Frame provides enterprises with a secure way to deliver Windows applications and not lose control of the underlying data. As a part of our Enterprise Profiles capability, Nutanix released a feature that allows Frame administrators to further secure their Frame environment by forcing users with Enterprise Profiles to be logged in as a non-administrative local Windows user. Recently, this feature has been turned into a setting that can be applied to any Frame account that is not using the Frame Domain Join feature.
