Guests in The Sustainable Hour on 20 November 2019 is Michelle Mairs from Sprout House Farms, who is sprouting about the benefits of edible flowers and microgreens, and Mike Hodgkinson from Capricorn Power, which has invented a highly efficient waste-heat-to-energy engine and are raising $600,000 to start production of it – by selling shares with minimum investment of $500 via an equity raising platform.
We have a chat with singer Ash Grunwald, who is performing in Queenscliffe in the weekend, about writing songs with an environmental message.
Sustainable People by Lene Foghsgaard takes a look at TooGoodToGo, the world’s biggest online marketplace for surplus meals. In the previous episode of Sustainable People we heard about foodwaste, and now its time again, because food waste is a massive problem: every second 51 ton of food is wasted all over the world. A group of Danish friends got the idea of creating an app, where you can go and pick up surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, supermarkeds and so on. They were out on a restaurant together, and started talking about all the food from the buffet that hadn’t been eaten. What about that? The idea was born! That is now three years ago, and the ToGoodToGo app is active in 14 European countries, with more coming soon – growing every day with new retailers signing up and new costumers coming onboard. Since the start in 2016, almost 25 million surplus meals have been sold cheaply via the app.
“Participation – that’s what’s gonna save the human race.”~ Pete Seeger, American singer
