So the Game Changers documentary is creating a lot of controversy.
I read a lot of your comments, today we’re gona answer your FAQs.
A LOT of people brought up bias. I heard a lot about James Cameron’s pea protein business…
Like I said, I think game changers makes some important points but I also disagree with several things in there
We gotta keep in mind, it’s a movie. Its fine to watch it, but our main source of life and death info, like nutrition, shouldn’t be movies, documentary or not, with industry ties or not.
I guess that's why James Cameron is a movie maker and im not. My movies would be really boring

New study suggests plant-based diets are associated with lower risk of moderate/severe COVID symptoms. Can we trust the findings? What can we learn from this?
Uploaded 14-06-21
study on effect of diet on covid: people on plant-based diets (WFPB + vegetarian) were 73% less likely to get moderate to severe COVID symptoms and people on low carb or high protein diets were almost 4x more likely to get moderate to severe covid than the plant-based crowd
maybe the people on plant-rich diets are more health conscious and careful with social distancing and are exposed to a lower virus load so they get less sick? just 1 example.
article describing the study: vegan diet reduces covid symptoms. A more accurate headline would be "study finds association between plant-based diets and severity of covid symptoms"
reactions from social media: "Vegan diet cuts covid risk. low carb increases risk". same misunderstandings.
they classified a ‘case’ of COVID as a positive test OR symptoms compatible with covid. So we don’t know how many participants really had covid
analysis only in people with a positive test: no significant difference in covid severity. odds of covid infection were lower for WFPB, vegetarian and pescatarian combined into 1 group
does this study demonstrate that plant-based diets protect against covid? No.

Lab grown meat was just approved for the 1st time. Is lab meat healthy? What is the environmental impact of lab grown meat aka clean meat, and is it truly cruelty-free? A look at the facts behind lab grown meats.
Uploaded 25-01-21
a lab grown chicken nugget can now be sold. others are developing lab grown steaks, pork, etc
lab grown meats: cells from biopsy, cell bank can be grown indefinitely
growth medium? growing cells in lab involves bovine serum. but chicken nugget company will grow their lab meats using plant serum
lab grown meat and environment? lab grown meats could streamline process. study took 4days to grow a lab steak; thousands can be grown in parallel
manufacturers: lab meats produce lower emissions than conventional meat. studies differ on environmental impact of cultured meats. we can't assume lab grown meats are more sustainable
are lab meats healthy? cultured chicken may be nutritionally similar to conventional meat. we have more control over lab grown meats, so we can tweak composition to make them healthier
we could create meats low in saturated fat. 1 study combined muscle cells with fat cells to get lean or fattier meats. we could engineer meat to get e.g. steak with the fat profile of walnuts
that study used… rodent meat. rat steaks?! Mouse cells more common in the lab. we can apply technique to grow chicken or beef
Churchill: "absurdity of growing a whole chicken to eat breast or wing; grow parts separately under a suitable medium."
- lab grown meats may eliminate the type of iron found in meat. lab grown meats could avoid heme iron
- conventional meat can be contaminated with bacteria. lab grown-meats aren’t exposed to feces
- antibiotic-resistant bacteria detected in meats. muscle cells grown in clean environment in the lab may be antibiotic-free
- animals treated with hormones to accelerate growth; growing muscle cells in the lab also requires growth factors. we need solid data on each lab grown meat
will lab grown meats, aka clean meats perpetuate our dependence on meat? meat producers and lab meat business
Some don’t eat meat and don’t need lab grown meats. but meat consumption projected to increase. most humans won't just drop the steaks
imitation meats: we can make a plant burger but not a steak. so ways to produce meat that are less destructive are a godsend
will lab grown meats stick? they made plant burgers that taste like meat, meat that tastes like meat should be easy. lab grown chicken nuggets said to taste like chicken
lab-grown chicken used to cost 9k/lb. maybe it will get to same price as conventionally grown meat
resistance to "frankenmeat". in 20y most meat projected not to come from slaughtered animals. maybe for our kids, meat grown in a lab will be normal
vid on imitation meats. not into meat? 7 sources of plant protein

Why is red meat so controversial? Heart disease or heart-healthy? Grass-fed or grain-fed? Established or undetermined? Beef, lamb, bacon or ham?
Uploaded 28-03-22
A look at the scientific evidence on the health impact of red meat.
forget whether you love or hate red meat. what is the health effect of eating red meat on cvd
higher consumption of red meat associated with risk of CHD
increased risk of death due to different causes incl. HD associated with red meat intake
whats our level of certainty regarding effect of red meat on CVD? Very low.
red meat includes bacon, salami, beef jerky, etc as well as steaks. maybe processed red meat is a problem but steaks are fine
higher intake of total red meat or red meat excluding processed meat, both were significantly associated with risk of CHD. Both processed and unprocessed red meat associated with mortality incl. HD
higher consumption of unprocessed red meat associated with 9% higher risk of ischemic heart disease per 50g eaten daily, about a quarter of a 8oz steak
People who eat more red meat also tend to exercise less, smoke more, drink more alcohol, etc.
maybe those factors are the real problem and red meat is an innocent bystander?
associations with red meat were stronger after other risk factors removed from the equation. mortality associated with red meat was stronger in non/former smokers, in people with normal BMI, and non/mild alcohol drinkers
do ultraprocessed food and animal foods incl. red meat have independent health effects?
red meat associated with risk even after ultraprocessed food taken out of the equation. association btw red meat and disease can’t be simply pinned on junk food
if red meat is an innocent bystander we might expect red meat to be less harmful in the context of a healthy diet. But association between unprocessed red meat and CVD was stronger in participants who consumed a higher-quality diet
red meat without junk food showed if anything stronger associations
increased risks associated with red meat may be partly accounted for by heme iron and heme iron is very high in red meat
a candidate mechanism for the effect of red meat
