As believers we need to keep the big picture in view. We may be going through persecution or painful circumstances, but that is only for a time. Eternity awaits and even if man takes our life we have an eternity with God to look forward to.

Paul knew he was facing execution and he was concerned about what would happen to the church and the people of God after he was gone. Those left behind would face persecution, trial, and difficult. Someone needed to guide the church and keep to the pattern of sound teaching. Timothy would be that man. Today, we'll look at Paul's encouragments to Timothy to insure that he would carry on the work of the gospel.

Today many of us face a growing resistence to the gospel. The fact that we teach that Jesus is the only way to a relationship with God the Father is offensive to many. A growing number of people attempt to shame us into abandoning the truth that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the LIfe. But we know that it was through the gospel that we were saved, therefore we must be unashamed of the gospel.

God has a relentless love. Jesus had a relentless pursuit. People relentlessly pursue darkness. Until they don't. What should Christians relentless response be?

Second Timothy is the apostle Paul's last letter with final instructions to Timothy, the person who would carry on the legacy of leadership and faith established by Paul.
