  • Athletic Performance: Strength & Conditioning

Everyone working with athletes knows that strength and conditioning improves athletic performance by building foundational muscle force, boosting explosive power, and enhancing cardiovascular efficiency. Strength and conditioning helps athletes run faster, jump higher, and delay fatigue.

Justin Lima is a recognized Canadian strength & conditioning expert.  In this podcast, he shares the core pillars of athletic performance, some key training methods and the critical benefits of progressive resistance training. Lima is a straight-talking, experienced coach who offers training insights, starting with a solid movement evaluation to ensure the Therapist builds a program for what athletes need, not just want.

Peak performance takes more than talent alone. It involves developing strength, speed, endurance, mobility, and sport-specific skills through structured training. Lima shares knowledge and experience generously, making a clear case that strength and conditioning play a key role in injury prevention by improving muscular support around joints and enhancing movement quality.

OSTA is pleased to forge a relationship with Justin Lima and his SCN—Strength Coach Network —and tap into its amazing online courses. Check out the courses highlighted on the OSTA website.  Fabulous content delivered by topic experts!!

  • ACL Injuries: From Prevention to Performance

Ontario Athletic Therapists (ATs) welcome insights from Carmen Bott, an ACL expert, on supporting athletes from assessment through full recovery and preventing repeat ACL injuries.

    • Total Volume: Roughly 17,000 surgical ACL procedures annually in Canada.
    • Injuries vs. Surgeries: Between 100,000 and 200,000 total ACL injuries happen across Canada yearly, meaning only a portion result in reconstruction surgery.
    • Demographics: Most injuries and subsequent surgeries happen in active individuals aged 15 to 45 involved in pivoting or high-demand sports.

Carmen Bott holds a master's degree in exercise science, is a strength and conditioning specialist, a practicing kinesiologist, and a friend to athletic therapy. Health in Motion is pleased to welcome her to the OSTA podcast, and OSTA is proud to promote her ACL course to Ontario ATs.

As a physical performance coach, Carmen has three decades of hands-on experience training athletes from the learn-to-train to the high-performance and professional levels.

We invited her to join us today to discuss her expertise in ACL injuries in her online ACL care and injury training course.
