Do you need grace? Tired of feeling judged by Christians? Stay tuned as we look at God, Golf, and Grace with Dr. Doug Rehberg.
I have seen huge cultural shifts in my time, a comment worthy of one who admits to being an old curmudgeon. One of those shifts was in the role and status of the clergyman. When growing up, the clergy was among the most respected professions in America. A local minister was revered in a way, often asked to open public meetings in prayer, provide benedictions at political functions, sought after for wisdom in times of crisis, and appreciated for his willingness to visit shut-ins, perform funerals, and preside over weddings. Often his counsel was even desired the way professional therapists are today.
While historically clergy have been among the most educated people in society for over two thousand years, they have also been notoriously underpaid, treated at times as “the help,” tipped a little extra at Christmas, or recipients of extra vegetables from the garden. There were other benefits as well, sometimes including a home while they served the church, along with a coveted free membership at the local country club, or at least the opportunity to play on Mondays when courses were traditionally closed.
Early in my ministry, I discovered those days were fading, which isn’t saying I didn’t pine away wishing for them to return. Ministry, as a “profession” was being stained daily by abuses as educational qualifications for ordination, were watered down by many independent and congregational churches.
Today we have a guest a man who straddled that generational gap as well as any I know. Highly respected in his community, he honored his country club for their generosity to him. He used their fairways to minister to many, and find refreshment for his own soul.
Let’s welcome the Reverend Dr. Doug Rehberg, author of the new book, “God, Golf and Grace.

  • #202 Terry Hershey: The Permission to be Ordinary
Show Notes  After a couple months of hiatus, I am so pleased to welcome back my friend and frequent podcast guest Terry Hershey. In today’s show Terry and I discuss the mostly American need for the overuse of superlatives in our daily speech. In this episode we talk about words like “great,” and “best” and “favorite.” Why is it when asked “how you doing” we commonly fall back to the phrase, “Great. I’m doing great!” Really??? How can you be doing great—all the time. Or what about “what is your favorite movie? Huh, before Covid I went to the movies twice a week. How could I possibly have a favorite? Instead, Terry suggests that it might be better if we were to give ourselves, “The Permission to be Ordinary.” And with regard to Ordinariness Terry goes so far as to suggest that “The ordinary is the hiding place of the holy.” Wow! That is SO true. Please enjoy our conversation with my ever so insightful friend, Terry Hershey. Visit Terry at www.terryhershey.com . • Living Hope-Wife refuses to give up the fight and starts a Foundation in memory of her husband.
Agi and Ron met by chance when Agi’s father coached Ron’s son’s soccer team.  Little did they know that on that day they would meet, fall in love and marry 3 months later.   Ron was a real dynamite of a man, they balanced each other immediately.  Ron was a thinker and Agi was a doer. Partners in life, partners in business and partners in fighting pancreatic cancer.  Losing Ron was devastating but, Agi refused to give up on what they had been fighting for.  They were fighting for a cure, they were fighting to live.  After Ron’s death, Agi immediately took her pain and grief and turned it into something positive, the start of a foundation in memory of the man she loved.  Agi's daughter, Lisa had a promising career of her own.  Wanting to support her mother she agreed to help with the foundation while she was on maternity leave.  Though she fully intended to go back and pursue her career, 20+ years later Lisa is now the Executive Director for the Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research and Co-Founder of the annual event Tour de Pier.
Agi, not one to let any grass grow under her feet started working on the foundation immediately after Ron’s death in May 1997.  In July,  that same year, the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research was born.
When asked what pearls of wisdom Agi could share with other Caregivers – "Have your moments, not just the disease.  Your life is not about the disease, it’s about your relationship and about how you love each other."
For more information on the Hirshberg Foundation and the Tour de Pier please visit www. https://pancreatic.org/

  • Kathy Mayfield, Intergrator and Entrepreneur
Kathy is the Integrator at Radial Inc and, quite frankly, one of the main reasons our software brand Traction® Tools took flight. After joining forces with Todd Smart as his executive assistant in 2013, she helped catapult Smart Partners, Inc. into a thriving entrepreneurial company. By that time, Kathy’s love affair with EOS® was a done deal. A few years later when the saucy little startup Traction Tools appeared on the EOS scene, Kathy switched gears and focused her attention on making Traction Tools an operational success. Her work at Traction Tools has been described by our Visionary as “akin to transforming an airplane into a rocket ship—mid-flight.” She harnessed and directed our energy toward rapid growth, as she's continued to do with each new venture we've launched.
