How many of us can say "I know what I want to be when I grow up?" Hear how her journey with pancreatic cancer will help mold future Doctors and Researchers to communicate better with patients.

  • Deep Pain with Dr.Mark Talbot
Ever faced pain? I mean real pain, deep pain, defining pain? Stay tuned as we look today at “Deep Pain with Dr. Mark Talbot” author of “When the Stars Disappear”.

There was one wooded winding road at the bottom of a hill right at the midpoint of my 20-minute jaunt to Jim’s house. It seemed like a long way in my early teens, traversing the way only teens can do, unabashedly combining quick sprints, slow jogs, periodic skipping, and rarely a normal walking gait. Somehow this hollow at the bottom of the hill at the end of Murdstone Road seemed special, the terrain prohibiting the constant suburban sprawl for a few hundred yards as the woods grew wild. By this point in my journey, I was ready for some deeper reflection, a safe distance from the place of my fear called home. Few would have guessed the content of the conversation I permitted myself to speak out loud in this private hollow. Almost always it was filled with prayerful questions reflecting confusion about the pain and fear I lived in on Murdstone Road, one of the least safe places I ever have experienced in life.
I asked God to do things on that stretch of road I would never have done in public. “Please God, just lift me up and transport me ten feet so I can know you really exist.” I’d close my eyes as I continued walking, waiting to feel the lift, and then laughing at my own silliness. I knew God didn’t play those games, but I thought it would be nice and surely strengthen my faith in the midst of the pain nightmare I called home.
Pain comes in a lot of forms. We could begin putting adjectives in front of the noun and be here all day, or we could turn it into an adjective and talk about all of the painful people, experiences, churches, muscles, thoughts…you get the idea.
So today we turn for help to an unusual place. A real philosopher of all things.
Let’s welcome Dr. Mark Talbot to Church Hurts And.
Dr. Mark Talbot encourages support of www.christianscholarsfund.org.

  • From the Archives: Austin Hedges - A Look at the Life of a Professional Athlete
Today we are reaching back to a guest we had on the show about one year ago, my son Austin Hedges. Austin is a professional baseball catcher for the Cleveland Indians. After nearly a decade of playing since graduating high school for the San Diego Padres, he was traded in late August to the Cleveland Indians. What I hope to chat about today has to do with both the inner emotional roller coaster ride, of ups and downs, family life, professional life and the place of dreams in the most competitive of environments. This show will be a “behind the scene” view of what it is like to be both hero as well as unappreciated. Fans are fickle and they frequently feel the right to express their opinions: many positive and some not so positive. In addition I want to get into “life during the season” and “life during the off-season.” For more with Charlie Hedges please visit www.thenextchapter.life

  • Meet the 1st PEDEGO Electric Bike dealer
In episode one, we heard the story of how Don DiCostanzo (founder of Pedego Electric Bikes) discovered a niche and a need for electric bikes (particularly among aging baby boomers who loved the fun of riding a bike again but struggled getting back up the hill and back home after their adventure was over). And how he created a "proof of concept store" to prove he could sell them next to the Crab Cooker on Balboa Peninsula (here in OC).
But how did that lead Don to start opening MORE stores and build his own dedicated dealer network (a rarity even in today's EBike business)?  Meet Tom Bock, another aging baby boomer seeking a fun and profitable "lifestyle business" he could use to ride out the next chapter in his life. Who walked into Don's life at a trade show and said "I want to be your first dealer".  And how (together) they figured out the whole dealer formula and turned it into the remarkable success it's become today (as they near 200 Pedego dealers nationwide...with double that number planned in the next few years).
Listen to Tom's passion for the product and his sound reasoning why he sees Pedego's dealer network continuing to grow (even in a world where brick and mortar stores are contracting).  Due to their multi-pronged strategy of sales, service and rentals (a big part of how they get people to try before they buy and pay for their retail store concept).
It's all here in this week's second episode of The Pedego Podcast:  Riding the EBike Revolution.  On Orange County's only community radio station, OC TALK RADIO. Streaming live from the University of California's BEALL APPLIED INNOVATION CENTER Thursdays at noon PT.

  • #198 Richard Stone: Story Intelligence Will Change Your Life
Show Notes  My guest today is author Richard (Rick) Stone, an expert in the power of story. His book Story Intelligence challenges the fact-based portrayals that we commonly use to describe ourselves and our companies. Instead Rick is a convincing advocate of the use of “story” as opposed to facts. Rick suggests that we are, in truth, a composite of the stories or narratives we tell ourselves about ourselves. YOUR Story matters. In fact, Rick Stone has convinced me of the life-altering power of personal narratives. Rick has impacted me personally in a huge way. Join me as Rick reminds us of a long-ignored discipline of knowing, owning, and paying attention to your own story. For more on Story Intelligence you can visit Rick’s website at www.storywork.com Check out his book, Story Intelligence.   For more on Charlie please go to www.thenextchapter.life.

  • Pedego Founder on the Electric Bike Revolution
Join us for the inaugural PEDEGO PODCAST with Don DiCostanzo discussing the many epiphanies that led him to start his own electric bike company and turn it into one of the biggest brands in America (all based here in OC).
Recalling how he saw the need in his own life (trying to ride down to the beach and then back up the hill).  Which led him to test the concept by opening a small shop next to the Crab Cooker on Balboa Peninsula to see if he could sell a few. And with that "proof of concept" set out to build his own bikes and a dedicated dealer network (a first for this industry) that's closing in on 200 stores.
Ride along as he recalls it all in what he describes as just the first inning of this EBike Revolution.  Here on Orange County's only community radio station, OC TALK RADIO. Streaming live from the University of California Irvine's BEALL APPLIED INNOVATION CENTER. Brought to you by PEDEGO Electric Bikes.
