Understanding executive function can help parents, teachers, and other professionals see these capacities in their children. Although executive function may sound like a highly technical term, the good news is, adults can easily do many things to promote the growth of these skills in children.

Concussion and the cumulative effects of repetitive head trauma have become a growing health concern both in the mainstream media and in the health care community. Although symptoms of concussion are not always outwardly visible, evidence suggests that post-concussion symptoms may interfere with an
individual’s ability to work, play, and participate in school. In the past, the recommendations following concussion emphasized a complete rest approach, whereas current approaches focus on a gradual engagement in functional activities shortly after the injury. Since current recommendations are focused on a gradual engagement in occupation and activity, occupational therapy may be a valuable service for individuals who have sustained concussions. However, despite the valuable role that occupational therapy may offer, there is limited literature supporting the role of occupational therapy in the management of concussion, and there are currently no clear guidelines for clinical practice. This paper will provide an overview of an occupation-based, client-centered framework for the management of concussion and
specific guidelines for occupation-based assessments and interventions.

Scoring Directions -
1. The BPSC is divided into three subscales, each with 4 items. Determine the BPSC subscale scores by assigning a “0” for each “Not at All” response, a “1” for each “Somewhat” response, and a “2” for each “Very Much” response, and then sum the results.
a. In the event that parents have selected multiple responses for a single question and are unavailable for further questioning, then choose the more concerning answer (i.e. "Somewhat" or "Very Much") farthest to the right.
b. In the event that there is a missing response, that item counts as zero.
2. Any summed score of 3 or more on any of the three subscales indicates that a child is “at risk” and needs further evaluation or investigation.

Lizzie Tenney suffers from the rare, and extreme, skin disorder Xeroderma Pigmentosum.  With there only being around 300 diagnosed cases in the United States – it makes Lizzie one in a million.  Xeroderma Pigmentosum commonly known as XP, is a rare degenerative disease, causing the skin to be unable to repair its own DNA once exposed – and damaged by – the sunlight’s harmful ultraviolet (or UV) rays, even resulting in skin cancer, neurological problems and developmental delays.

Each year, thousands of older Americans fall at home. Many of them are seriously injured, and some are disabled. In 2002, more than 12,800 people over age 65 died and 1.6 million were treated in emergency departments because of falls.
