There's still no sign of the day care centre at Our Lady's Hospital in Manorhamilton reopening.

The facility has been closed for a number of years and had been widely used by a number of people from the north Leitrim area.

While the services previously available there have been moved to the Bee Park Community Centre, it's said to be suffering from a lack of available space.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor, Justin Warnock, says the current situation is not suitable for both older and vulnerable people with extra needs.

Councillor Warnock says the issue is having a serious impact on those affected.

Sinn Fein have confirmed their candidates to run in the Midlands North West Constituency for the upcoming European elections.

Chris McManus has been selected to run again, while Michelle Gildernew has been chosen as a running partner.

The decisions were confirmed at the Election Convention held in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan.

Speaking after his selection, MEP McManus outlined what the priorities for Sinn Fein would be if he was elected.

Funding has been allocated for work to be carried out on the R287.

The funding was awarded by Leitrim County Council through the Low Cost Safety measure.

It will focus on adjusting the sightlines where the junction meets the local road, with work beginning later this year.

Local Councillor Frank Dolan says the area on the road in question has been a concern to residents for a while now.

The AIM Centre in Sligo was officially by Enterprise Minister Simon Coveney this afternoon.

The centre, which serves the entire northwest region, has a primary focus on supporting industry with the adoption of digital technology and smart manufacturing.

It's a project driven by ATU, Sligo County Council and Leitrim County Council and is supported by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment administered through Enterprise Ireland.

There were heated scenes in Killybegs last night following a public meeting with Minister for Agriculture, Charlie McConalogue.

The meeting was held to discuss the treatment of fishermen and fishing communities.

It's understood that many people walked out in the middle of the meeting.

The Department of Agriculture's handling of the fishing industry has been criticised by many recently.

It was discussed in the Dáil at length on Thursday, with Independent Donegal TD, Thomas Pringle, also saying fishermen were being "shafted" earlier this week.

Local fishing net manufacturer, Malachy Murrin, said the community feel disillusioned with the government.

A public meeting is being held this weekend in Dunkineely over plans to house asylum seekers in the area.

It's understood that the Ringfort Inn in Bruckless intends to welcome a number of refugees to the premises in the very near future.

The building has been lying idle since 2012 and it's been claimed that there are works ongoing on the site without full planning permission being granted.

The meeting is getting underway at 7pm on Sunday in the Dunkineely Community Centre.

The Housing Minister has confirmed he expects to include Sligo in the state's mica and pyrite redress scheme.

Last month, Minister Darragh O'Brien indicated that the county would be high on the priority list.

Hundreds of homes in Sligo are thought to be affected by the issue.

Those in the likes of Donegal, Mayo, Limerick and Clare currently have access to the scheme and there have been ongoing calls for Sligo to be added as a matter of urgency.

Speaking in the Dáil, Sligo-Leitrim TD Marian Harkin asked the Minister to provide certainty to the people of Sligo.

In reply, Minister O'Brien says while he awaits the final submission from the local authority, he fully expects to give Sligo homeowners access to the scheme in the very near future.

Guarantees have been given that the regional vet lab in Sligo will be upgraded.

There had been significant delays to the project over a number of years, with questions raised as to whether the upgrade would go ahead at all.

But confirmation has been received from the Department of Agriculture that following a similar project in Kilkenny, work will begin to improve the facilities at the regional lab in Sligo.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, local Fine Gael Councillor, Thomas Walsh, said it was a relief that the project finally got the green light.

Roads across counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal will each benefit from large scale funding.

The funding is part of a significant investment package of €658m nationwide announced by Transport Minister Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Jack Chambers.

Repairs include bridge rehabilitation, drainage works and road safety measures.

Donegal has been allocated €36.22 million, Sligo has received €16.18 million while €13.18 million is going to Leitrim.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan has welcomed the funding, saying it will provide safer streets and stronger communities.
