The government has been lambasted for their their treatment of fishermen and fishing communities in Donegal.

Independent TD Thomas Pringle says he has great concerns about the future of the fishing industry, particularly in areas such as Killybegs.

Deputy Pringle has criticised the government’s handling of the industry, saying that fishing communities have been “shafted”.

He says Killybegs has taken a severe hit as a result.

In response, Minister for Agriculture Food and Marine, Charlie McConalogue acknowledged his fellow Donegal deputy’s concerns and claimed Killybegs is the town most impacted by Brexit.

The new, long-awaited Community Hospital in Ballyshannon is set to open next Tuesday.

The hospital was due to open on Monday of this week but was stalled due to concerns from the INMO around planned staffing levels.

However, following consultation with senior HSE management, a date has been fixed.

The bottle banks in both Bundoran and Ballyshannon are being continuously abused.

That's according to local Sinn Fein Cllr Michael McMahon, who says people continue to leave a mess behind them with rubbish dumped that's not recyclable.

He's called for CCTV to be installed at both locations a number of times but no progress has been made to date.

He believes it's the only solution to what is a very frustrating issue, especially for those who are left with the clean up.

There is no current female retained fire fighter based in Donegal.

The call comes as the local authority in the county currently recruiting to hire retained fire fighters for stations.

To help with this the council, the council will host an open night this evening at Bundoran Fire Station.

Taking place between 7 and 9pm, it will be an opportunity to meet and view the equipment and vehicles used by current retained fire fighters.

Bundoran RNLI and the Rescue 118 helicopter were tasked to rescue two people stuck at a cliff in Sligo.

The alarm was raised at around 2.40 on Wednesday afternoon, as two people were stuck on the rocks at Mermaid's Cove in Mullaghmore.

Upon arrival, it was discovered one of the people had a wrist injury, and the Rescue 118 helicopter was called to lift the casualty to safety.

The second person was able to make it back to the top of the cliff with the assistance of a lifeboat crew member and shore crew waiting at the top.

Serious concern has been raised over plans to house asylum seekers in the Ringfort Inn in Bruckless.

It's claimed that there are various works are ongoing on the site without all planning regulations being adhered to.

The Government is being urged to step in and prevent anyone from moving into the facility until such time as all planning issues are addressed.

Councillor Niamh Kennedy says Donegal County Council should take inspiration from their colleagues in Leitrim and their handling of a similar situation in Dromahair.

She says what's happening essentially fly's in the face of the planning authority and that is totally unacceptable.

Funding has been allocated to extend the Falls Prevention Programme for another 26 weeks.

The programme was initially launched in the Nazareth House as a pilot scheme led by Primary Care Physiotherapy staff.

The funding was delayed due to industrial action undertaken by Fórsa members in the HSE, but was rolled out after the industrial action ended.

The programme will now extend to other community partnerships in Sligo and Leitrim.
