As the presidental election draws closer, the latest polling figures show Catherine Connolly is 18 points ahead of Heather Humphreys with just over a week to go until the election.

Some quarters questioned the fairness of the electoral process after figures like Maria Steen failed to secure enough nominations to run.

The election was put into further disrepute when Fianna Fail's Jim Gavin pulled out of the race after it emerged that he owed a former tenant over 3 thousand euro.

The Dáil has heard today that the people in Sligo whose homes are impacted by Pyrite are not pretending that their lives have been severely impacted by the condition.

Sligo Leitrim Deputy, Martin Kenny made the comments during a debate on a motion seeking to reform the defective concrete redress scheme.

The Sinn Fein TD says that only five people in Sligo have been able to submit applications to the scheme.

The Leitrim TD says the scheme is set up in such a way that it is blocking people from receiving redress

Gardai in Donegal have sounded warnings over bogus tradespeople operating in the County.

There have been several reports made to Gardai over the last 24 hours.

If follows similar incidents in County Sligo earlier this year.
