Fourteen greyhounds were killed and 20 injured at Lifford Greyhound Stadium in the first eight months of 2025, new figures have revealed.

The data, obtained through a Dáil question, shows a rise in deaths at the Donegal track compared to all of 2024.

Campaigners say public funding of nearly €20 million a year is propping up a cruel and unsustainable industry.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Nuala Donlon from Greyhound Action Ireland says the government must phase out funding and end this suffering.

Motorists in Sligo are displeased with what they call unneccessarily low speed limits in the county.

The old N4 stretch from Castlebaldwin to Collooney, now designated as the L3700, has gone from a 100 kilometre per hour speed limit to a sixty kilometre per hour route.

Local Fianna Fail Cllr Liam Brennan says that local motorists are getting penalised.

A new Greenway across the North West has received a further boost.

Phase 3 of the Sligo Leitrim and Northern Counties Greenway is set to begin soon.

This phase is set to involve consultations with landowners on the path across Sligo and Leitrim before work begins.

Cllr Marie Casserly has outlined the next steps for the Greenway:

Five ambassadors from Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Poland visited Sligo yesterday for discussions with Sligo County Council at County Hall.

Today marks World Mental Health Day, and the Samaritans are reminding people of the power of connection and conversation.

They're encouraging the public to take part in Walkies for Wellbeing, a 100km walking challenge running throughout October.

The campaign raises funds for the charity while promoting mental and physical wellbeing through fresh air and social interaction.

Two projects in the North West have been awarded funding in the latest round of the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.

Almost 600,000 euro a piece has been awarded to the Rosses Point Community Boat Park and the Arroo Centre project in Kinlough.

The money will go towards moving both projects to the next stage.

Minister of State Marian Harkin says both projects will be of huge benefit to the communities in question:

There's a call for a thorough count of the deer population in Donegal.

It's thought that national figures are inaccurate and do not reflect the true number of deer on the ground.

There's said to have been multiple collisions involving deer and vehicles in Donegal with genuine fears that someone will be killed unless action is taken.

Independent Cllr Jimmy Brogan says the issue is a cause of major concern among some communities.
