A community-led project is bringing colour and connection to Ballytivnan Training Centre in Sligo.

Volunteers, businesses, and the Sligo Volunteer Centre teamed up to repaint the space for adults with intellectual disabilities.

It's part of a wider push to promote meaningful volunteerism across the region.

The centre reopens on August 18th refreshed by local hands and hearts.

The Assistant General Secretary of the Garda Representative Association has warned that officers everywhere are now facing more dangers that ever when it comes to carrying out their duties.

Tara Mc Manus made the comment in response to Department of Justice figures that over 150 gardaí have been assaulted while on duty so far this year.

The figures are part of a growing trend with 3,440 gardaí having been assaulted while on duty in almost 12 years.

There were 156 assaults of on-duty gardaí reported as of July 23rd this year.

A Midlands North West MEP is warning that the economic uncertainty around tariffs that will be imposed on Pharmaceutical products from Europe is leading to a dangerous scenario where companies based in the North West are already indicating that they will increase their investment in the US.

Ciaran Mullooly says such moves are as direct result of President Trump threating to impose a tariffs of 150 per cent on such products.

 The Independent Ireland MEP says companies like Abbvie and Abbot are providing vital employment in this region.

He says the threats from President Trump is leading to instability for Pharma Companies.

A leading Health expert in the North West has moved to ease the fears of North Leitrim residents over the dangers of respiratory diseases.

Dr Anthony Breslin, Director of Public Health, HSE North West has reacted to recent CSO data that states that the Manorhamilton Municipal District had the highest percentage of deaths for such conditions in all local Electoral Areas in the County

Dr Beslin says when analysing the number of Deaths caused by respiratory diseases such as influenza, pneumonia and bronchitis you have to take stock of a number of factors including the total population of the Local Electoral Area and the age Profile of the residents.
