A Sligo Leitrim TD says the uncertainty surrounding US tariffs on EU pharmaceuticals is bad news for the North West Region.

It remains unclear if US tariffs on EU pharmaceuticals will be higher than agreed.

Most EU goods going into the US are under a 15 per cent charge since yesterday.

However, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 250 per cent tariff on pharma instead of 15 per cent.

A leading Health expert in the North West has moved to ease the fears of North Leitrim residents over the dangers of respiratory diseases.

Dr Anthony Breslin, Director of Public Health, HSE North West has reacted to recent CSO data that states that the Manorhamilton Municipal District had the highest percentage of deaths for such conditions in all local Electoral Areas in the County.

Dr Breslin says when analysing the number of Deaths caused by respiratory diseases such as influenza, pneumonia and bronchitis you have to take stock of a number of factors including the total population of the Local Electoral Area and the age Profile of the residents.

It's been confirmed that the SLNCR Greenway project is set to move to the next stage.

The TII has given the green light to begin phase three.

Environmental Surveys are ongoing since April and will continue until the end of next year.

The planned greenway will run through Sligo, Leitrim and into Northern Ireland.

There's disgust in Sligo after bags of clothing and household items were dumped at one of the banks last night.

If the banks are full, people are urged to hold onto their items and return another day or visit a different site.
