The Head of Nursing at St Angela's College in Sligo has expressed her concern at aspects of the ongoing row over payment for student nurses, and says a step back to the days of nurses providing cheap labour cannot be allowed to happen. Dr Edel McSharry says recognition of Nursing Studies as a university degree was hard fought for, and the learning aspect of nurses' training is being overlooked in the current debate

There's been mixed reaction to the concern expressed by the Association of Catholic Priests at masses on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day going ahead during Covid restrictions. Danny, a local Church steward, believes there should be no masses at all held, while Maeve says parishes need to follow the lead of Rathcormac where extra masses are being organised

One of the two councillors who voted against a Sligo County Council proposal this week to invite US President-elect, Joe Biden, to the county has been outlining his reasons for so doing. Independent Socialist councillor, Declan Bree, says he opposes Biden's stance on numerous foreign policy issues, including his support for Israel
