Liturgy of the Hours Vol. IV:
Christian Prayer (single volume)
Morning Prayer for Saturday in Ordinary Time
God, come to my assistance.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
HYMN
As light of day returns once more,
Through whom the great Creator's will
True light of every faithful soul
O Father, uncreated Light,
PSALMODY
Ant. 1 We do well to sing to your name, Most High, and proclaim your mercy at daybreak.
Psalm 92
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad;
Though the wicked spring up like grass
To me you give the wild ox’s strength;
Planted in the house of the Lord,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Take our shame away from us, Lord, and make us rejoice in your saving works. May all who have been chosen by your Son always abound in works of faith, hope, and love in your service.
Ant. We do well to sing to your name, Most High, and proclaim your mercy at daybreak.
Ant.2 I will create a new heart in you, and breathe into you a new spirit.
Canticle – Ezekiel 36:24-28
I will take you away from among the nations,
I will sprinkle clean water upon you
I will give you a new heart
I will put my spirit within you
You shall live in the land I gave your fathers;
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Ant. I will create a new heart in you, and breathe into you a new spirit.
Ant. 3 On the lips of children and infants you have found perfect praise.
Psalm 8
How great is your name, O Lord our God,
Your majesty is praised above the heavens;
When I see the heavens, the work of your hands,
Yet you have made him little less than a god;
All of them, sheep and cattle,
How great is your name, O Lord our God
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
Psalm-prayer
Almighty Lord, how wonderful is your name. You have made every creature subject to you; make us worthy to give you service.
Ant. On the lips of children and infants you have found perfect praise.
READING 2 Peter 3:13-15a
What we await are new heavens and a new earth where, according to his promise, the justice of God will reside. So, beloved, while waiting for this, make every effort to be found without stain or defilement, and at peace in his sight. Consider that our Lord’s patience is directed toward salvation.
Sacred Silence (indicated by a bell) – a moment to reflect and receive in our hearts the full resonance of the voice of the Holy Spirit and to unite our personal prayer more closely with the word of God and public voice of the Church.
RESPONSORY
It is my joy, O God, to praise you with song.
To sing as I ponder your goodness,
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
CANTICLE OF ZECHARIAH
Ant. Lord, guide our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 1:68 – 79
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High;
In the tender compassion of our God
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
Ant. Lord, guide our feet into the way of peace.
INTERCESSIONS
Let us adore God, who has given hope and life to the world through his Son, and let us humbly ask him:
Lord, Father of all, you have brought us to the dawn of this day,
You have poured out faith, hope and love upon us,
Lord, let our eyes be always raised up to you,
Protect us from the snares and enticements of evil,
Our Father who art in heaven,
Concluding Prayer
All-powerful and ever-living God,
