  • ODO 54: Tales of Pest Control
It's now officially springtime. That being said, it's time to start treating the house for those warm weather bugs. I've committed to doing my own pest control, and even bought a
new sprayer for the job. Of course, now I'm sick from the pesticides, and it's not the first time it's happened.
In the news, I've got cell phone face masks and more than a couple stories about being under the influence. Speaking of under the influence, this week's featured podcast is "Ice and the Face."

    -BULLSHIT FROM THE NEWS-

-Mask Muffles Your Voice to Keep Phone Calls Private-
Hushme is a bizarre high-tech mask that blocks the sound of the wearer’s voice so that people nearby can’t hear what is being said. Hushme also features external speakers that play a variety of sounds when you speak.

-Belgian Church Turns into Beer Bar after Every Sunday Mass-
In Brielen, a small Belgian village of only 700 inhabitants, it was customary for church goers to meet up for a beer after every Sunday mass. That became a problem after the last bar in the village closed down, but the local priest was more than happy to keep the tradition going by turning the church into a bar after Sunday mass.

-Colombians Can Now Go to Work Drunk Or High as Long as It Doesn't Affect Their Performance-
A reinterpreted article in Colombia’s Labor Code was recently approved by the country’s Constitutional Court, thus allowing people to show up for work drunk or under the influence of narcotics as long as their productivity is not affected.

-Someone donated sixty ounces of marijuana to Goodwill-
Goodwill workers in Monroe, Washington opened a donated cooler and found five bags of weed inside. (That's 60 times the amount that's legal to possess in Washington.)

We dive deep into the ridiculous shit happening in the world today and laugh heartily at all of its absurdity as it burns to the ground. We subscribe to our one rule, hilarity over feelings!"

  • ODO 53 Corned Beef and Carjackers
This Friday is St Patrick's Day. Incidentally, it's also my wedding anniversary. Of course I have no clue what I'm gonna do for that. But I do have good news for all those Irish Catholics worried about eating corned beef on friday. Plus, emoji snakes, pink water, blowjob apps and more. In Recommended Listening, I'm getting extra weird with "Bizarre States."

  • ODO 52: March Movie Madness
    MARCH MOVIE MADNESS

This week I'm devoting the entire show to the awesome slate of films dropping this month. Between the superhero epic of "Logan" and the batshit crazy "The Belko Experiment" this is shaping up to be the best march movie season ever. Keeping with the movie theme, this week's Recommended Listening is another Sanspants Radio gem, "Movie Maintenance- Because some movies just need fixing."

    GET OUT- February 24, 2017
Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford). At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.

    LOGAN- March 3, 2017
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND- March 10, 2017
A diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific – as beautiful as it is treacherous – unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST- March 17, 2017
An adaptation of the classic fairy-tale about a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love.

THE BELKO EXPERIMENT- March 17, 2017
The Belko Experiment explores a twisted social experiment, in which a group of 80 Americans are locked in their high-rise corporate office in Bogata and ordered by an unknown voice on an intercom system to participate in a deadly game of kill or be killed.

    POWER RANGERS- March 24, 2017
Power Rangers follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove – and the world – is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.

  • ODO 51: On The Job Fail
Completely by coincidence, all my news stories this week are "work" related . There are some questionably awesome stories, and then there's the idiots. Whether it's just poor judgment or doing something monumentally stupid, that group are now experts at how to lose a job. Some even went the extra mile and got arrested.

  • ODO 50: Is It Spring Already
    IS IT SPRING ALREADY

It's only February, yet I've already had to have the a/c running in my house for weeks. I've had to get back into full scale yard work. And I'm starting to see the evil death critters from hell, scorpions, around the house again. I don't want it to be spring yet. On top of that, in AZ we have spring training baseball. It may be great for the local economy, but it absolutely sucks for traffic. I just want winter to go on for a little longer.

  • ODO 49: I Suck at Valentines
Valentine's Day is here so I've committed to focusing the entire episode on the holiday. The problem with that is, in a very general way, I'm no good at Valentine's.
It's not that I am not romantic. The problem comes mostly in that I'm too practical. I dislike giving flowers because they barely last a few days before dying. Chocolate seems very impersonal. There's a million different heart shaped boxes of candy out there, and everybody has particulars about box chocolates. Don't believe me, just look at any variety box of candy after a couple days. You'll find a lot of the same things left behind.
Ultimately my failure boils down to a simple fact: I'm not that creative about gifts and the good ones are STUPID expensive.

    Dark Angels and Pretty Freaks
    http://darkangelsandprettyfreaks.com/

Married couple, Annaleis and Neil C live together in Northern California with their pets and egos. Both have a wide variety of interests including animal welfare, video games, comic books, reading, music, Jamaica, podcasting, travel, NASCAR, and other crap. These two started podcasting because they couldn't seem to get enough of their own voices. Hearing the beautiful sounds made by their mouths, they were inspired to allow everyone to experience the joy, so they began sharing their sweet vocal love with the masses...

Don't let the name and logo fool you. This is, at its most basic, a couple's comedy show. Their theme song says it perfectly, "They only talk about themselves, I figure I'd warn ya." Honestly, I'm ok with that. These two may just sit around talking about "whatever" as a couple, but it works because they're funny. Considering we do a similar thing on "Mom and Dad Cuss" how could I really have a problem with it. You can't fake the authenticity of a married couple picking on each other and fighting with the dog's chew toys. It's like hanging out with your cool married friends every week.

  • ODO 48: Adams Rants- Big Dumb Ape
I had a very upsetting encounter at work with what can only be described as a bully. A great big gorilla looking guy decided that he wanted to cuss me out and push me around for being professional and doing my job. As much as I wanted to cuss him out in return, my professionalism beat out my temper. Unfortunately I'm just not a very intimidating looking person and I've kinda been pushed around for most of my life.

  • ODO: The Incident
On February 13, 2010 Adam was the victim of an "aggravated robbery" in which he was held at gunpoint and beaten over the head with a bat. After 7 years we are now sharing the most complete version of this story as it is a major part of who we both are today. It is not pretty, it is not funny. We make a few jokes to relieve tension, but it is still quite a heavy and dark tale to tell for both of us. We intentionally avoided names out of respect to others involved, and did not get into the court case involved, although it has already been settled.

  • ODO 47: Podcasting as a Dad
Congratulations to Daniel J. Lewis from "The Audacity to Podcast" on the birth of his first son, "Noodle Baby."

The birth of "Noodle Baby" inspired me to talk about the idea of how having kids kills your podcast. Of course I can't keep to the topic at hand and go on talking about general Dadness. I love being a dad, and I love being a podcaster, but those things do in fact butt heads at times.
I have missed many weeks on this show due to family life, but that is part of the trade off of wearing both hats. Something has to take priority, and in my life that is always going to be my family.

Normally I'd write something about the show but Emily puts it so perfectly herself:

The extraordinary history of the ordinary. Do you like trivia and fun facts? Have you lost hours to Wikipedia rabbit holes? Do you ever wonder about the history of everyday things in your world? The Story Behind ... is the show for you! Warning: Your friends might tire of you starting sentences with, "I learned on a podcast ..."

I am a fan of strange trivia, and this show has that in spades. Whether it's the many origins of pretzels, or a deep dive into the legend that is Betty White, Emily always delivers great information with just a pinch of humor. Her pun game could only be matched by my wife's. You will come out of every episode smiling having learned something cool. Five stars all the way.
