Odd Dad Out

Back from my break to move into our new house. We aren't totally settled in yet but we are at least in the new house. Just making this move reminded me of how much of an adventure moving is, and how much my pro skill at moving has dive bombed over the years.

Teaching Tolerance

We are back from our "moving hiatus" and this week we jump back in with an incident that occurred while we got settled into our new home. Long story short, our oldest son called ReAnna "fat." This lead to the idea of how to teach tolerance to our boys. We go from the initial issue of fat shaming and teaching respect to generally being accepting of others.
We come from very different backgrounds but both have grown to be very inclusive in our friendships. We also have quite a varied family makeup including people of all sizes, races, sexualities, religions, and political views. All this considered, it is somewhat surprising to find that any of our boys would show that sort of behavior, especially towards their mother. We aren't 100% on how to approach this all yet, but it is definitely a lesson that needs to be handled appropriately.

It's a fun night with family. This week I am joined by my wife ReAnna, oldest sister MG (Raevyn Lunatic), her husband Derek (Rev. Knuckleface), and her son Glenn (Fabulous the 2nd.) For the occasion we cracked open a bottle of "God's Pillow" from the "Clockwork Chemists", and Angry Orchard "Iceman."
By the nature of our family, we just start talking about whatever comes to mind. Just because we have so much fun hanging out we went on for-ev-er... Topics ranged from our grandparents deaths to "Alf" to "Game of Thrones." Believe it or not the alcohol has nothing to do with our behavior. We are just like this when we get together. Enjoy!!

I'm getting a little "Meta" this week. (Is that how you use that?) This week I'm taking on podcasting as a virus / addiction. I go from initial infection of the podcasting bug, to infecting others, to growing into the podcaster strain and replicating it and spreading to even more people. Whether you're just consuming or are creating, there is no escaping it. Once you've been infected with the podcast, there's no going back, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

This week we decided to dig a bit deeper into some of the most difficult times we've had as parents: when our children were first born.

Each one of our sons' births came with a different set of issues. Whether it were a simple case of eczema, a heart arrhythmia, or a week confined to a box in the NICU, our boys have gone through more than a fair share of turbulence. But through all of it we have managed to push through, and have some great little guys to show for it.

I'm just gonna say it, I suck at social Media. This week I explain my love/hate... mostly hate relationship with social media. From Myspace to Snapchat and everything in between, I am a millennial failure. I am also quite aware of the hypocrisy of sharing this podcast about hating social media to ALL my social media platforms. But hey, I have to spread the word somehow.
