make 做，制作，使得，获得……等等等一百万个意思，这里是“使……”
short 短的
也可以简短说 long story short，也是“长话短说”。

举个例子，放在语境里，第45课学了一句提醒朋友Mike留心别被骗的话，
Mike, wake up and smell the coffee! They're cheating you! 麦克，清醒点！他们在骗你！
假设，Mike还是被骗了，你再见到Mike时，问他情况如何，Mike就可以说：
It's a long story. 说来话长。/ 一言难尽。
或者，他还可以说：
To make a long story short—I never got back the money that I lent them.
长话短说 / 总而言之，我从来没有收回我借给他们的钱。

make 可以用 cut 代替 —>
cut a long story short
cut 切，动词。
I never got back the money that I lent them.
never 从来没有，一点也不
get back 拿回，找回，取回
money 钱
lent 原形是 lend，借（出）<> borrow （向别人）借（入）
我一点儿都没有收回我借给他们的钱。

亨利·戴维·梭罗（Henry David Thoreau，美国作家，1817–1862）说：
