Off the Arrow Shelf

Do you ever feel you are running to just keep still, I feellike I am sometimes.

In the latest episode I offer some updates on what I’ve beendoing coaching wise and course setting. I also identify some of the things I have seen new archers to the hobby do that isn’t always right or puts pressure on themselves.

I mention how Coach Angel Garcia is back releasing contentagain and promised a link to his podcast on spotify (https://open.spotify.com/show/6WmNrw5VQLXUWiMKAnh5Ra?si=bd17bc7b7c7244aa)and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/HighPowerArcher)

In the latest episode I invite you on a learning journey with me as I introduce you to the concept of the Archers Triangle which is something I first started using when I started archery nearly 20 years ago.

I honestly believe it is as applicable to an existing archeras it is to a newbie.

In the next few episodes, I plan to expand on the 3 sides ofthe triangle but this is very much an overview.

If you are a coach do you have something similar to helpexplain things to your students?

In the latest episode I looking back at our Easter break andwhat we got up to away from archery. I want to also thank everyone who has been supporting me of late and all my loyal followers.

I take some time to talk about my thoughts on the future ofthe podcast, how I hope to create some more 3D target reviews, revisit the coaching tips via the Archers Triangle and how I doubt I’ll go down a sponsorship or Patron’s route.

In the latest episode I am recording a shoot report forBlack Arrows NFAS shoot in March this year. I was great to catch up with people, especially Nathan aka Clwyd_archer on Instagram

Overall, I thought it was a good day just a bit slow at times, but that won't put us off from returning. Our thanks to all involved with setting the course and running the event, especially for the warm welcome and hot food (great chilli guys).

There seems to have been a lot of things going on the in thearchery world in recent weeks, from archery shops going into administration, the government plans for limiting crossbows in the UK. Me tinkering with barebow and trying out some new arrows from Skylon (edge 6.2) along with a couple ofpodcast suggestions.

Firstly, though a bit of promotion for the Briar Rose fieldArchery annual shoot on the 19th of July and we have people already booked on.It's open to all NFAS archers and all styles, sadly no dogs though. It would have been nice to avoid the same weekend as the Welsh champs but this was the only date our land owner allowed us. If you aren't at the Welsh championshipswhy not give us a visit you can book via the club website https://briarrosefieldarchers.wordpress.com/

I’ve recorded this episode of the podcast as a video on mythoughts on the National Field Archery Society championship faces (NFAS). For those that don’t know NFAS produce a selection of target faces specifically designed for the big game round used at clubs across the country and at theNational Championships in September.

In this video I cover the positive and negative points and provide my thoughts specifically the mess version we use at our club. We have been using these styles of faces for a couple of years and in our experience they work pretty well, especially in wet conditions but there are a couple ofnegative areas where they could be improved.

There are currently 80 target faces, 20 per group, whichmeans you could set 2 full 40 target courses and not repeat a face.

You can order these directly from the NFAS website, where inthe downloads section you will find the order form. https://nfas.net/downloads

Let me know what you think.

Welcome to the first podcast of 2026, crazy to think we arealready in February. I hope 2026 is treating you well and any new year resolutions you made are still going well.

I will admit to having a bit of a rant at the start of this episode concerning the appalling service we have received from TUI airlines following our long flight delay when returning home. After everything that happened end of last year we decided to book a ski holiday, which was fantastic but the flight home was delayed for hours.

Anyway lets change the subject to more archery related. Inthe episode I  give my thoughts on the proposals that have been sent out to NFAS members for voting on this yearconcerning rule changes. Some of which I like others of which I am less keen on.

Let me know what you think.

Welcome to the last podcast of 2025. It’s crazy to think 2025is almost over.

In this episode, where I dare to be in front of the camera, rather than just a voice,  I give a quick review of 2025 from Off the Arrow Shelf HQ, also known as my office come fletchingroom, but more importantly I get the opportunity to say thanks to all my followers, listeners and subscribers.

I have been very fortunate to have some fantastic guests this year from the world of archery, scouting and beyond.

I would also like to give a special thanks to my friends whohave been amazing this year.

As for 2026? I have a few ideas of 3d reviews and coaching topics. In the meantime remember to enjoy your archery.
