In this episode I am joined by Chris Mussell who is a scoutleader and archer, where we have a long conversation about the role archery has in the scouting organisation in the UK. Discussing not just coaching scouts of all ages in archery in all forms from soft archery to shooting a simple field course, but also what is involved with training the scout leaders in the what’s required to run a session for scouts.

It provides a really good insight into how the scoutingorganisation plans, runs and controls the rules of shooting for scouts and leaders.

Of course we do tangent at times into other archery relatedtopics as we have known each other for several years.

In this very special episode, I am delighted to host areturning guest Kristina Dolgilevica return.

Then she had only just taken on the role of Editor for Bow International magazine.Now a couple of years on we discuss her success in celebrating Bow Internationals 30th birthday.

We also discuss at length a new various coaching aspect andher new initiative surrounding the World Traditional Archery Federation and the formation of the UK Traditional Archers' International Association (UK-TAIA), contact detail of which are below.  

We chat about her hopes and aspirations for UK-TAIA inpromoting not just competition but also the cultural heritages of the differing forms of traditional archery across the globe. The goal being to promote the association and the potential it has for highlighting the potential for engagement across countries and continents.

It’s been a very exhausting couple of weeks with my Mamsfuneral, helping at a scout camp, half term with associated childcare and more.

Finishing off with a trip in an ambulance and stint in thelocal hospital accident and emergency, thanks to knocking myself out at the archery wood. So in all it’s been very tiring. Anyway back to this edition.

Onto the main focus of this episode of the podcast and this isa question which could be at best a hugely contentious issue or at worse a downright explosive one.

Is it time to license bow ownership in the UK?  I explore this topic offering my thoughts on the matter and consider what possible alternatives are available.

I try to approach it from a pragmatic view point of what ispractical or realistic. If you listen to the various media channels you could believe that all bow ownership whether longbow, compound or crossbow is unnecessary and should be licensed as firearms are in the UK.

In this episode I talk about my experiences of generating content on a daily basis for YouTube shorts. Along with what it’s taught me about the work involved, acknowledging you don’t always have to have a response or answer to every question.

It’s okay to say I don’t know or I need to check that.

It's also made me realise I want to focus on longer form material going into a bit more depth than can be accomplished in 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or couple of minutes.

We’ve been looking for group 4 3D target and I’d shot a Wildcrete cane toad at an NFAS shoot a few months back and thought it was worth investing in.

With the club having, recently bought this target from MerlinArchery (https://www.merlinarchery.co.uk/) I thought it about time to record this review on what it’s like and how well it stands up to being shot. It was used at the clubs open NFAS shoot in July, with over 100 archers attending andtrying to hit it.

Overall, it worked really well, though light poundage kid bows struggled to penetrate it a couple of times due to the density of the foam.

My only criticism is the use of metal tubes rather thanplastic as metal tubes are now friendly on arrows.
