Off The Coast

This was meant to come out during the off season....oops. But this is our first deep dive episodes that we call Free Agency. In this episode we will be looking at playoff reffing. What's different about it, if we like the differences, and if there is data to back up the alleged change in reffing style.

Here's the PDF of the data collected by Joey

The Ducks had an exciting draft, the Sharks lost their captain, Subban's a Devil, Kessel's a Yote, and some real bad contracts were signed in free agency.

This is our super suuuper late post Cup Final show! I have no excuses.

In this episode we talk about the cup final, the bruins injury report, the opening shots of the post season; the Truba trade and the Phanuf/Perry buy outs, as well as the upcoming (at the time) draft.

The Sharks are eliminado, the Bruins and Blues are locked in a struggle for the Stanley Cup, the Ducks still don't have a coach, and Penn rages against statistical figures (of questionable source) supporting the idea that Erik Karlsson was "dominant."

This week we talk about the Conference Finals as they stood last Saturday, obviously, things have progressed sense then. We cover more things going right for the Sharks in the form of the missed hand pass Patrick Roy interviewing in Ottawa for the head coaching job, getting everyone excited for Chaos, the Sabers making a good decision for once it seems, and the Gulls doing far far better than their NHL counter point.

The Sharks survive another controversial game 7, the Oilers have a new GM, and the Bruins might be Dream Killers. Pavelski is risen. All hail Pavelski.

This week, my audio track sounds as bad as I do. Sorry about that, I tried to fix it as best I could. Other than that, we breakdown the last half of the first round and then go over the second. We cover the controversial 5 minute major from the Sharks/Knights game 7, and what little Ducks coaching news there is.

Hockey, thy name is Chaos. The playoffs are bonkers, Penn is still pessimistic about the Sharks chances (even though they have by this point managed to force a game 7), and three coaches (two of them good ones) have new homes. We're wrong about everything, so we double down and make some more new wrong predictions here. Good thing our opinions don't matter.

PLAYOFFS ARE NOW! We spend most of this episode talking about how we think the first round is going to shake out. With the delay on editing due to illness, I now know that we were entirely wrong on that front, but I stand by our analysis. We also talk briefly about the draft lotto and the odd drama drummed up around Blues goalie Jordan Binnington.

The Sharks have caught the California sickness, and the Ducks are winning too many games, but at least we're close to that most magical time of the year! This week, the hosts discuss Drew Doughty, the Ducks youngsters, the Sharks' goaltending woes, and Erik Karlsson. Prepare for some grim grumbling.
