Fall is in the air and the migration of Chinook (King) and Coho salmon start to make their way out of Lake Ontario into the Salmon River. These fish are followed by Atlantic Salmon, Steelhead and Brown trout. Anglers from all over the world converge on this 13 mile stretch of river to try to bring these fish to hand during this migration. The first 2 1/2 miles of truly wadable water is privately owned nad has been by over a century. This stretch is known as the Douglaston Salmon Run (DSR) and I had the opportunity to sit down with the manager of the DSR, Garrett Brancy, He discusses the history of the property, the different parts of their stretch of river, conservation practices put in place in the DSR, the lodging on property and the different methods used to target these fish.
