We get nerdy big time today when it comes to Star Wars and discuss all of the recent decisions with Star Wars and how the franchise is viewed by fans of the series and the general public who may not be fans. We also discuss how people are trying to make Star Wars political and how that hurts more than just moviegoers.
This is unscripted, real conversation. This is what happens off the air. This is Off the Record.
0:39 - Tim confirms Ryan Haney (our boss) will join the podcast Thursday. Tim also mentions that he and Jon will be going to the UAB game Thursday as well and blasts Jon for never going to Legion Field anymore (which isn't true).
4:35 - Tim brings up Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown) being cast in Star Wars Episode IX and both guys try to theorize which character he could be.
5:23 - Tim asks Jon about the character of Snoke in Star Wars and what his legacy will be in this series.
10:22 - Jon and Tim discuss why The Last Jedi was such a divisive film and how awful the fans have acted about it.
18:35 - Tim asks Jon his opinion on the statement "Disney is killing Star Wars".
26:34 - Tim notes how the best movie in each trilogy is in a different spot (Empire was #2, Revenge of the Sith was #3 and Force Awakens was #1). Jon says part of the reason The Force Awakens will still be #1 after Episode IX is because The Force Awakens had the perfect mix of old and new within the universe.
30:08 - Tim asks Jon if he's surprised that Rian Johnson is still a part of the Star Wars universe.
30:51 - Tim brings up how far left and right wing people continually bring up issues with the casting and choice of directors and how that's affecting the franchise. Jon says everyone should just want the best product, regardless of who is in what role.
38:16 - Tim says he never expected George Lucas to give up the property, and Jon says Star Wars is in the right hands moving forward.
Today's intro song is "Feels Like Summer" by Childish Gambino.
