Joining Michael Dawson and Matt Tarr on the Off The Shelf podcast this week is... Steven Caulker!

From his Spurs academy days, his surprise first team debut coming completely out of the blue to representing Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics - in the football team but it could've been 800m - 'Caulks' takes us through his journey at the Club and beyond.

Uncover the challenges he faced under Andre Villas-Boas, his solitary cap (and goal!) for England and why he opted to play for Sierra Leone after scoring for England. Also hear the honest discussions around the personal struggles he faced with addiction that led him to seeking help and rehabilitation and his poignant personal account of a tragic bus accident that claimed the life of a teammate whilst playing for Alanyaspor in Turkey.

This is a compelling story of resilience and the complex tapestry of a footballer's life.

Goalkeeping royalty on the Off The Shelf podcast 👑

Joining Michael Dawson and Matt Tarr this week is legendary Spurs player, Pat Jennings.

Pat was a special player and is regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers in history. The Northern Ireland stopper was our custodian for 13 years and amassed 591 appearances in perhaps the club's most successful period in history. During his time at White Hart Lane, the 78-year-old spent a glittering spell that brought four major trophies in the FA Cup in 1967, two League Cups in 1971 and 1973 and the inaugural UEFA Cup in 1971. He was also recognised as Footballer of the Year in 1973 and even scored a goal from inside his own box with a huge punt in our 1967 Charity Shield victory over Manchester United.

An assured presence between the sticks, the goalkeeper holds a record 119 caps for Northern Ireland in an international career spanning 22 years. In a senior club career which saw him play more than 1,000 times at the top level across Watford, Spurs, Arsenal and Everton, the 78-year-old has also made an impact off the pitch which has been recognised with an MBE, an OBE and promoted further to a CBE and was honoured with a statue in his hometown of Kildare St, Newry in November 2023.

This is Pat's story.

Our Off The Shelf podcast guest this week is our former captain and goalkeeper, Paul Robinson!

Join us as the pod returns to Yorkshire as 'Robbo' takes us through his football journey from York City academy, seizing his opportunity at Leeds United to be their first-choice goalkeeper and his career-defining move to Spurs at 23 years old where his appearances in Lilywhite quickly established him as England's number one before concluding his four-year spell with Carling Cup success in 2008.

This is a fascinating conversation that charts scoring *that* Premier League goal against Watford, the pressures of the Three Lions' 'Golden Generation', recovering from the life-threatening repercussions of an operation in the latter stages of his career and discussing his traits in relation to the 'modern' goalkeeper.
